WHL’s People’s Power Rankings – October 17th, 2018

While it is still early in the season, teams are really coming into their own in the Western Hockey League. The WHL featured three teams in the KIA CHL Top 10 as presented by the Canadian Hockey League. Those teams were the Prince Albert Raiders, Victoria Royals and the Vancouver Giants. The Brandon Wheat Kings also earned an honourable mention. Now it is the people’s turn to have their say on the WHL’s Power Rankings. Our votes have been tabulated and there are movers and shakers among them. Two teams dropped four spots while one team jumped four places. Check out the latest from DUBNetwork

Eastern Conference

1

0 Prince Albert Raiders

no doubting they are the top team in the WHL, unanimous decision amongst voters

2

2 Saskatoon Blades

Young team with an excellent goaltender. Playing very well right now, will we see this continue the whole season?

3

-1 Brandon Wheat Kings

Yet to lose a game in regulation, did lose to the last place Broncos last weekend.

4

3 Red Deer Rebels

The best of a hard to read central division, has played the East division well.

5

3 Moose Jaw Warriors

All in last season, off to a good start despite all the losses to their team.

6

0 Medicine Hat Tigers

Merely survived their US Division road trip.

7

-4 Edmonton Oil Kings

5-0-0-0 start a distant memory, team has not won since.

8

1 Kootenay Ice

Hanging around most nights, seem to get caught on their few mistakes

9

-4 Lethbridge Hurricanes

This ranking should improve in time, still figuring it out this season.

10

1 Regina Pats

Couple of big road wins recently, let's see if they can keep it up.

11

-1 Calgary Hitmen

Surprisingly not very good this season. Rumblings already about the coaching staff.

12

0 Swift Current Broncos

They won a game over a divisional foe. Still in the WHL basement though

Western Conference

1

1 Vancouver Giants

Defeated the last remaining undefeated WHL team and has looked great doing it.

2

-1 Victoria Royals

Some cracks beginning to show in the royal armour. Still very much a contender in the West

3

1 Seattle Thunderbirds

Much less was expected of the T'birds this season, they are showing what they are made of early

4

4 Portland Winterhawks

A bit of a surprise here, their record isn't what it could be. Have the roster to be a contender.

5

1 Everett Silvertips

Having 10 penalties in a game and not giving up a single power play goal is impressive. Different team than years past.

6

-4 Spokane Chiefs

Not exactly setting the world on fire, goaltending seems to be an Achilles for them

7

-2 Tri-City Americans

Feeling the sting of losing top players from last season. Lowest number of games played with just 7

8

1 Prince George Cougars

Third in division, well back of the two beasts. 3 straight home games on deck, could help their situation

9

-2 Kamloops Blazers

2 wins through 9 games just doesn't cut it. Offense is sputtering and 2 suspensions in the last 2 weeks

10

0 Kelowna Rockets

With just 2 wins through 11 games it comes as no surprise to find the team here.
