WHL recap: Yamamoto scores winner for Chiefs with 28 seconds left; Warriors get road win

Moose Jaw 6 @Regina 3

When the Moose Jaw Warriors (43-9-1-2) acquired defenseman Brandon Schuldhaus at the trade deadline this year, they were not necessarily bringing him in for offense. The six-foot-four, 198 pound blue liner had four career goals in 161 games.

Since coming to Moose Jaw, though the big hitting d-man now has six goals and four assists in 14 games.

He had two goals and an assist Wednesday as the Warriors went into Regina and took it 603 over the Pats.

Schuldhaus opened the scoring 6:53 in.

Regina then came back with a goal six minutes later from Cameron Hebig. Sam Steel notched a power play goal 1:41 into the second to give the Pats a 2-1 lead.

Spokane 3 Kamloops 2

The Spokane Chiefs (31-20-3-2) are playing some great hockey right now at a key time in the season. Kailer Yamamoto is a big reason for that. Yamamoto was at it again on Wednesday night as He had a goal and an assist in Spokane’s 3-2 home win over the Kamloops Blazers (26-27-1-3).

Yamamoto recently had an 11-game point streak snapped and now he has a four-game streak going ever since. In the 27 games since he was sent down by the Edmonton Oilers, he has 46 points.

Joe Gatenby opened the scoring for Kamloops with assists going to Orrin Centazzo and Jermaine Loewen.

Eli Zimmack answered back with his 11th this year. The goal came with 9:28 left in the first.

Jake McGrew then gave the Chiefs the lead on the power play about four minutes later.

After Jackson Shepard tied the game again with 5:54 left in regulation, it was Yamamoto scoring the winner with 28 seconds left in regulation.

Dawson Weatherill out-dueled Dylan Ferguson as he stopped 29 of 31, while Ferguson turned away 24 of 27.
