Wheat Kings “Luck of the Irish”

It’s St. Patricks Day and there’s no better way to celebrate the day than taking a look back at how the Brandon Wheat Kings did on this day in recent history.

March 17, 2018 – Epic comeback:

Playing in their final game of the regular season, Brandon pulled off a very improbable come back playing against the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Moose Jaw jumped out to a 4-0 lead just 6:17 into the second period. Evan Weinger scored his 31st goal of the season midway through the period to fuel the big come back. Ty Lewis scored his 44th of the season in the game; however, Luka Burzan was the real regulation time hero.

He scored twice with the game-tying goal coming with just 1:07 left in regulation to force extra time. In the end, the two teams went to a shootout and Burzan played the role of hero again as he beat Adam Evanoff to give Brandon a 5-4 win.

March 17, 2015 – Solid road win:

Brandon scored three goals in the third period to defeat the Regina Pats, 4-1.

Nolan Patrick tallied two goals while Peter Quenneville and Morgan Klimchuk each scored one goal in the win.

Jordan Papirny stopped 24 shots on 25 goals.

March 17, 2012 – Takedown Pats, again:

There’s something about playing Regina on St. Patrick’s Day. Brandon scored seven goals in the first 40 minutes in a big 7-2 win. Two of the goals were power-play markers.

Mark Stone was the leader with two goals and two assists while Brodie Melnychuk also had two markers on the night.

Brenden Walker had four assists. Ryley Miller, Darian Dziurzynski, and Alessio Bertaggia each scored once.

Corbin Boes went 22-of-24 in the net.

March 17, 2006 – Luck of the Irish:

If you’re noticing that the trend of Brandon taking down Regina on St. Patrick’s Day has become an occurring theme here, that’s because it has. Backed by a two-goal performance from Mark Derlago, the Wheat Kings downed Regina, 4-2.

John Wikner and Tyler Dittmer scored two goals in the game.

Tyler Plante who is now the goaltender’s coach for Brandon made 23 saves on 25 shots.
