We’ve tallied the three-star selections from the months of September and October as selected daily in the Daily Dose

Honorable Mention – Mark Kastelic

Once named the second star of the night as well as two third star nominations, Kastelic had an excellent opening six weeks to the season. In nine games he has collected 12 points and is fourth in scoring for the Calgary Hitmen. Kastelic has scored twice, three times this season and each time was named one of the night’s three stars. His best outing came on a two-goal night on October 20th against the Medicine Hat Tigers. DUBNetwork named him the second star of the night.

Third Star – Three-way tie

Roddy Ross

Was named the first star of the night on two occasions. The first came when he made 50 saves in a win over the Kamloops Blazers back on September 21st. The second came in another Thunderbirds victory, this time a 33-save effort in a win over the Calgary Hitmen on October 28th. His record now stands at 5-4-2-1 with a .902 save percentage and a 3.47 goals-against average.

Reece Newkirk

Gave Portland some excellent offense on two separate occasions, earning the DUBNetwork first star both times. On October 9th, Newkirk had a career-high four points (1G, 3A) in a Winterhawks 8-2 win over the Swift Current Broncos. He matched his career-high just two weeks later, getting involved in all four Winterhawks goals in a 4-3 win over Prince Albert.  Has 17 points in 14 games this season.

Jake Gricius

Also named the first star on two nights in September and October. Gricius’ goal and two assists propelled the Winterhawks over the Blazers on September 22nd. Gricius then had a career-best night two goals and three assists on October 25th as the Winterhawks beat the Spokane Chiefs 6-3. Has collected 15 points in 14 games for the Winterhawks.

Second Star – Dustin Wolf

Was one of the three stars of the night on three separate occasions. A 26-save shutout of the Victoria Royals on September 21st was enough to give Wolf the night’s second star. Posting his second shutout of the season on October 12th following a 1-0 overtime win over the Seattle Thunderbirds gave Wolf his first star of the night nod. His third nomination came on October 19th when the Silvertips beat the Prince Albert Raiders 2-1 in overtime. Wolf made 30 saves in the effort. His record is 8-4-0-0 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .939 save percentage

First Star – Nolan Foote

With three nominations, Foote edged out Wolf by providing two, first-star efforts and a second-star effort. On October 2nd, Foote scored once and added three assists for first star honors on the night and a 6-1 win over the Tri-City Americans. Two goals, including the overtime winner, and an assist gave Foote the first star nod once again as the Rockets beat the Broncos 3-2 on October 16th. Finally on October 23rd Foote posted one goal and two assists in a 4-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars. Foote has 21 points on the season and is currently seventh in WHL scoring.
