Red Deer runs their record to 3-0 with shootout win over Brandon

Another character win for the Rebels

Despite leading the game 2-1 after the first period, the Rebels found themselves down 3-2 after 40 minutes. The explosive power play for the Wheat Kings was mostly kept quiet on the night, going just one for five. Red Deer’s power play also went one for five but did allow a short handed marker from Tanner Kaspick in the first period. In the third period, Red Deer was able to tie the game and then later take the lead with just 1:47 to play when Reese Johnson scored his third goal in as many games. The Wheat Kings would then pull goalie Logan Thompson for the extra attacker. Tanner KaspickĀ netted his second goal of the night with just seven seconds remaining to send the game to the extra session.

Despite a power play in the overtime for the Rebels, neither team was able to score. The teams then headed to the shootout. Brandon would get a goal from Kaspick but Red Deer would score twice on goals from Mason McCarty and Kristian Reichel. 3610 fans would go home unhappy as their team would only score one point, but they were able to enjoy a thrilling contest. Rebels defenseman Alexander Alexeyev was injured in the second period and not return. His status is unknown heading into tomorrow’s road game against Moose Jaw. Brandon will host the Swift Current Broncos.
