Red Deer Rebels Alumni Updates – USports

Continuing a look at the alumni of the Red Deer Rebels, we move onto players who are playing, generally, on a scholarship, they earned with the WHL, in USports. There are several leagues throughout the USports scope and they compete for the chance to win the David Johnston University Cup. This year the tournament is hosted by Acadia University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

All stats are up-to-date as of December 28, 2019

Taz Burman – University of Lethbridge Pronghorns

Burman is in his second season with the Pronghorns program. He has made 12 appearances and has a 4-6-1 record for the seventh-place club. His goals-against average is 4.42 and he has a .903 save percentage.

Matthew Campese – Brock University Badgers

Campese is listed as being at Brock University for this season but has not suited up in any game for the team. It is possible he is no longer with the Badgers.

Jeff de Wit – Concordia University Stingers

This is the freshman season for the just departed de Wit. He has played in 13 of the team’s 16 games and has collected two goals and three assists.

Jared Dmytriw – University of Saskatchewan Huskies

Also a freshman following his final WHL season, Dmytriw has played in all 16 of the Huskies games this season. He leads the team in scoring with six goals and eight assists. The Huskies are third in the Canada West Conference at 11-3-2.

Scott Feser – York University Lions

Former fan favourite Feser four goals and 10 assists for the last-place Lions. This is his fourth season with the Lions. He has played in 99 games with team amassing 31 goals and 38 assists.

Jack Flaman – Acadia University Axmen

In his second season with the Axmen, Flaman is turning in his best season. He has six goals and three assists for the championship hosts. The team is 14-4-0 and is in first place in the AUS Conference.

Jared Freadrich – University of British Columbia Thunderbirds

The freshman has played in just eight games this season with UBC. He has collected four assists in those games. The team currently is sixth with a 4-9-3 record.

Austin Glover – University of British Columbia Thunderbirds

This is the third season with UBC for Glover, he has played in 56 games for the Thunderbirds, amassing 10 goals and 21 assists. This season he has five goals and four assists in 18 games.

Wyatt Johnson – University of Saskatchewan Huskies

Entering his fourth season with the Huskies, the former Rebels captain has played in 60 USports contests collecting 13 goals and 16 assists. This season, Johnson has seen action in six games, scoring once and adding three assists.

Riley Lamb – University of Manitoba Bisons

The Bisons are off to a good start this season with Lamb between the pipes. He has a 5-4-1 record coupled with a 3.42 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in 10 appearances. This is Lamb’s freshman season with the Bisons.

Trevor Martin – University of Waterloo Warriors

Martin has seen action in 10 games at the USports level this season. He currently has a 4-5-0-0 record with a 3.00 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage. It is his third season with the Warriors, he has played in 39 games.

Brooks Maxwell – University of Lethbridge Pronghorns

After taking two seasons off from hockey, Maxwell came back and has played three seasons with the Pronghorns. This season Maxwell has four goals and seven assists in 18 games. Overall he has played in 46 USports games and has 14 goals and 24 assists.

Colton Kehler-Mason McCarty (Andy Devlin)

Mason McCarty – Acadia University Axmen

Following an effort to turn pro at the ECHL level, McCarty made the move to attend Acadia University while the team gears up to host the David Johnston University Cup. In his first season with the Axmen McCarty has piled up eight goals and eight assists in 15 games.

Colin Paradis – University of Toronto Varsity Blues

The defenseman moved onto the QMJHL following his stint in Red Deer. In his first season with the Varsity Blues Paradis has two assists in 14 games as the team leads the OUA West conference. They are 14-2-0.

Travis Chil-Grayson Pawlenchuk (Andy Devlin/Edmonton Oil Kings)

Grayson Pawlenchuk – University of Alberta Golden Bears

It’s been a great start to the Usports career for Pawlenchuk. He won last year’s Canada West Rookie of the Year award and was named WHL Grad of the Month in March of 2019. He has followed up his excellent rookie season with an even better 2019-2020 season. He has scored 11 times and added 10 assists in 16 games.

Ryan Pouliot – University of British Columbia Thunderbirds

In his first season at the USports level Pouliot has seen game action in 14 of the team’s games. He has contributed one assist.

Tyler Sandhu – University of British Columbia Thunderbirds

This is the third season for Sandhu at UBC. The Thunderbirds are struggling this season, currently sixth in Canada West. Sandhu has seven goals and four assists for the club in 16 games.

Brandon Schuldhaus – Queens University Gaels

Another USports rookie, Schuldhaus has five assists in 17 games for the Gaels. The team is currently sixth in OUA East action, four points back of the fourth-place McGill University Redmen.

Rylan Toth – University of British Columbia Thunderbirds

This is the third season for the two time Memorial Cup participant. Toth’s record this season is 3-6-3 in 13 games of action for the Thunderbirds. He has a 3.22 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage.

Lane Zablocki – University of Calgary Dinos

Zablocki has appeared in just seven games for the Dinos this season and has one goal.
