Giants shut down Blazers 2-0

Vancouver 2 Kamloops 0

Monday evening at the Langley Events Centre, a match up of two desperate teams took place. The Kamloops Blazers (27-32-1-4) had dropped two straight and were finding a playoff post slipping our of their grasp and the Vancouver Giants (32-21-5-3) had lost three in-a-row and their hopes of getting home-ice in the first round starting to be threatened.

In the end, a goaltending duel took place and David Tendeck’s 24 save shutout beat out Dylan Ferguson’s 25 saves on 26 shots and a power play goal from Jared Dmytriw in the second period was the difference.

The clean sheet was Tendeck’s third this year and increases his save percentage to fourth-best in the WHL at 0.918.

Dmytriw netted his second goal in three games and 14th this year with 6:10 left in the second off a feed from James Malm.

Tyler Benson added an empty netter right as time expired. This was his 21st this year.

Kamloops remains six points back of Seattle for the last playoff spot with the T-birds having three games in hand. The Blazers have eight games remaining and will need to really go on a run to get to the post-season.

Vancouver now closes to within three points of Victoria for second in the B.C. Division with two games in hand.

The Giants now head down to Kent for a game with Seattle Wednesday. The Blazers meanwhile head back home to host Victoria.
