Daily Dose of the Dub: Rosters getting trimmed

As the second week of the preseason in the WHL gets rolling along, teams are starting to trim down their rosters. While a vast majority of players being removed from the rosters, are 15 or 16-year-olds, there will be a few veteran names included.

Chiefs see Hamaliuk and Chenier leave the team

Spokane got down to 27 as they headed into the preseason tournament in Kennewick this weekend. Dalton Hamaliuk, an overage defenseman who played 213 regular season and 13 playoff games with Spokane was released. The reasoning behind this clearly seems to be because of the need to get down to three overage players – per league rules. Spokane appears to be going with forward Riley Woods and defensemen Nolan Reid and Jeff Faith.

Hamaliuk, who stands six-foot-two and weighs 212 pounds scored six goals and added 31 assists in his three-plus seasons with the Chiefs. He was originally a second round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

The other player now off the roster was 2000-born forward Cedric Chenier. In the press release, the Chiefs hinted that this was the Winnipeg native’s decision. He played 37 games with Spokane last year,s coring two goals and adding four assists for six points.

Lets go through Spokane and the other 21 WHL teams and what players are no longer listed on the team rosters.

Keep in mind that there could be some minor errors as rosters are getting updated all the time.
