WHL Gameday Preview: Winnipeg ICE @Everett Silvertips and more

DUBNetwork Feature Game of the Night: November 16, 2019 Winnipeg ICE 10-8-1-0 @ Everett Silvertips 13-4-0-0 7:05PM (PST)
In a cross border battle and the only meeting of the season, the Winnipeg ICE make the long trip down to Everett to face off with the Silvertips. Everett are 6-4-1-0 all-time against the ICE in Everett and have won three of the last four overall meetings. The Silvertips have been red hot winning their last five straight games. While the ICE have had an up and down last five games winning three out of the five. Winnipeg last played on Monday night a 7-2 loss to their Manitoba rivals, the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Everett hasn’t played in a week when they extended their winning streak to five with a 4-2 win over division rivals, the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The ICE are getting a massive boost to their lineup soon as their captain Peyton Krebs has been returned to the team. Krebs had been out all year as he recovered and rehabbed from his partially torn Achilles injury that he suffered in the summer. Krebs had been rehabbing with the Vegas Golden Knights who selected Krebs 17th overall in the 2019 Draft. Last season Krebs posted 68 points in 64 games to lead the ICE in scoring. Unfortunately for the ICE, Krebs won’t make his debut until tomorrow in Portland as he has to serve a one-game suspension he got at the end of last season.

While Krebs has been absent, the ICE have been led by the play of rookie forward Michal Teply. Teply, a 2019 first round import draft selection from the Czech Republic, is producing at a point-a-game pace so far this season. He has seven goals and 12 assists in 19 games this season. Teply was not only drafted in the WHL this past off-season he was also selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the fourth round of the NHL draft.

Connor McClennon, Winnipeg’s second leading scorer has 16 points in 19 games his season. Carson Lambos leads all ICE defenceman in scoring, has ten points in 13 games this season. Drafted second overall in 2018, Lambos only skated in five games last year but he did manage to score his first career goal.
First-year ICE member Isaac Johnson rounds out Winnipeg’s top three scorers this season as the overage forward has 15 points in 19 games including seven goals.

The division leading Silvertips have been paced by a couple of overage players so far this season. One of those players is forward Bryce Kindopp. In his fourth full season in the WHL, Kindopp has 22 points in 17 games including 13 goals. Last season, Kindopp posted career highs in goals (39), assists (34), and points (73), in 67 games. Bryce was named captain of the Silvertips earlier this season after attending Colorado Avalanche training camp as a free agent. Kindopp has played in over 220 games in his career, all with the Silvertips.

Philadelphia Flyers, 2018, fifth round draft choice, Wyatte Wylie leads the back end. Wylie, who turned 20 on Nov. 2nd, is in his fourth season as well. Last season he hit career highs and led the Silvertips in scoring by a defenceman with 47 points, and tied the Silvertips lead for power play assists (18) while suiting up in 67 games.

Acquired earlier in the season from the Prince Albert Raiders, Cole Fonstad has come in and added an extra scoring threat to the Silvertips forward group. In just five games so far with Everett, the Montreal Canadiens 2018 fifth round draft pick has eight points. Fonstad had nine points in nine games with Prince Albert to start the season. Last season with the Raiders, Fonstad had 73 points including a career high 29 goals. It was the second straight season Fonstad had produced 73 points. Fonstad returns to the Silvertips lineup after participating in the CIBC Canada Russia Series for Team WHL.

season. Tonight’s game is the start of a three game home stand for the Silvertips.

This season McNabb has played in eight games, winning five of those games, while posting a 3.42GAA and .883SAV%.
