The WHL has two elimination games on tap tonight! We’l preview them both today!
Edmonton Oil Kings @ Medicine Hat Tigers (3-2 Oil Kings) 4pm MDT
Edmonton looks to close out the troublesome Tigers on the road, after winning the last two games. The series has been very even through Game 5, as three games were determined by one goal, and each team has earned a blowout victory with scores of 5-1 and 5-0.
Mads Sogaard has continued his upward trend as the NHL Draft approaches, posting a .924 save percentage in 5 games against a high-volume team in Edmonton.
However, the Oil Kings appear to have hit their stride in the last two games, scoring a total of 10 goals. Game four saw the Oil Kings go up 5-2, while the Tigers were only able to cut that lead to one.
Special teams have been a curse for the home teams in this series. Medicine Hat will have to buck that trend if they want to extend this series to seven.
On the road, the Oil Kings are 25% (2/8) on the PP and 90.9% (1/11) on the PK.
At home, the Tigers are the inverse with 9.1% on the PP and 75% on the PK.
Funny enough, despite the poor special teams numbers displayed by the home team this series, the road teams are a combined 2-3.
Lethbridge Hurricanes @ Calgary Hitmen (3-2 Calgary) 6pm MDT
After opening the series 2-0, the Hurricanes have fallen short, to the Hitmen, in three straight games.
Calgary has scored a combined 16 goals in their three victories and has pushed the veteran Hurricanes squad to the brink of elimination.
Opposite of the EDM-MH series, the home team in this series has won 4-of-5 and has posted superior special teams numbers.
At home, Calgary is 25% (2/8) on the PP and 90% (1/10) on the PK.
Making Lethbridge 10% on the PP and 75% on the PK.
The Hurricanes will require a spirited and disciplined effort on the road if they want to bring this series back to the… Nicholas Sheran Arena.
