Zane spent a year at NAIT for the Radio and Television Broadcasting program before switching over to Macewan University, where he is now earning his Bachelor of Communications degree. Since 2015, he has written for various hockey websites and is currently a PA announcer for Macewan Athletics. He indulges in various other projects in his spare time, including hosting his own podcast, Shatter the Glass. He lives in Leduc, Alberta where he grew up playing minor and junior hockey and watching his favourite team, the Edmonton Oilers a few miles north.
