WHL People’s Power Rankings November 14th, 2018

A little later than usual but here we have it! The People’s Power Rankings!

There was not as much movement in the power rankings this go-around as teams have started to settle into their groove as the season passes the quarter pole.

We do have a new number one in the Western Conference and we see a team take a four spot dive in the West, while another team made a 4 spot climb.

In the East one team has made a big jump to the top three, still well back of the CHL’s #1 Prince Albert Raiders. It’s shaping up to be one hell of a season, and we’ve really only just begun. So without further ado, the People’s Power Rankings!

Updated 11/14/2018

Eastern Conference

1

0 Prince Albert Raiders

No doubt about their ranking, question is, who gives them their second loss?

2

0 Red Deer Rebels

4-1-0-0 in their last 5 games, all on the road, play 12 of the next 16 games on home ice to close out 2018.

3

3 Edmonton Oil Kings

Have not lost in regulation since October 19th, 4-0-1-0 on latest road swing.

4

-1 Saskatoon Blades

Just 5-5-2 sine their 7-2-0-0 start, which team are they?

5

-1 Brandon Wheat Kings

Survived their B.C. road trip, got home and beat highly touted Red Deer team.

6

0 Lethbridge Hurricanes

Puzzling how inconsistent this team is. On paper one of the top teams in the whole WHL. In the standings, not so much.

7

0 Medicine Hat Tigers

Team lurches up and down in the standings, having some personnel issues, former players speaking out for Clouston

8

0 Moose Jaw Warriors

Leaning hard on veteran players, with mixed results.

9

2 Regina Pats

Return of 20-year-old D Brady Pouteau sparked team. Playing better than their record suggests.

10

-1 Calgary Hitmen

Acquiring James Malm should help, right?!?!

11

-1 Kootenay Ice

Team has trouble scoring at key times, hurts them when it counts.

12

0 Swift Current Broncos

Progressively playing better, goaltending is keeping them from being embarrassed.

Western Conference

1

1 Everett Silvertips

Won all three games in a three-in-three weekend. Nearly a unanimous vote.

2

-1 Vancouver Giants

Tight loss to PG and playing closer to average over last few weeks drops them from top spot.

3

4 Portland Winterhawks

Surging towards the top of the US Division, putting a lot of pucks behind opposing goalies.

4

0 Tri-City Americans

Keeping pace with the division leaders, in the midst of a tough East Division road trip.

5

0 Spokane Chiefs

Played through a tough spell, lost Jaret Anderson-Dolan to an injury and then turned it around slightly. Team to keep an eye on.

6

-3 Victoria Royals

Started as the class of the Western Conference, have dropped to below average over their last 10. 8 of their next 10 are away from the island city.

7

2 Prince George Cougars

Have played their way into the top three of the B.C. Division, had a huge morale boosting win over Vancouver.

8

0 Seattle Thunderbirds

Suddenly unable to beat anyone, earning points in just 3 of their last 10 games.

9

1 Kelowna Rockets

Moving out of the basement for the first time this season, new head coach has team playing better but not seeing the results.

10

-4 Kamloops Blazers

Things in the interior are spiraling fast, might we see some deals before Christmas?

The power rankings are compiled by votes from media sources throughout the Western Hockey League. Thank you to those who voted.
