Wheat Kings begin season against Winnipeg ICE

The Brandon Wheat Kings won’t have to wait long to play their new Manitoba rival for the first time in regular-season action. In fact, the first meeting comes on the WHL’s Opening Day as Brandon welcomes the Winnipeg ICE to Westoba Place on September 20.

The Battle of Manitoba’s second installment goes down on September 21 at Wayne Fleming Arena in Winnipeg.

After welcoming Moose Jaw to town on September 27, Brandon will embark on their first game outside of Manitoba.  They complete a home-and-home with the Warriors on September 28 at Mosaic Place.

October begins with two straight home games on October 4 and 5, against Vancouver and Edmonton, respectively.

Brandon heads on the road for their first extended road trip from October 16-26. The trip begins on Wednesday night against Everett and wraps up on the 26 at the Innovation Credit Union I-Plex in Swift Current. Stops along the way include Seattle, Portland, Tri-City, Spokane, and Lethbridge.

Just like October, Brandon begins November with some home cooking. They play three games in the first five days of the month against Swift Current, Lethbridge, and Red Deer.

From November 16-19, the team finds themselves in Red Deer, Edmonton, and Medicine Hat for a three-games in four-nights trip.

After that short road trip, Brandon will not leave the province of Manitoba for more than a month. They play 12 games from November 22-December 30, and nine of them are at Westoba Place in Brandon. The remaining three are at Wayne Fleming Arena as they challenge the ICE.

To round out 2019, Brandon heads to Moose Jaw for a game against the Warriors on December 31. That’s followed by a home game on January 3 against Prince Albert. The team immediately heads back on the road for a Sunday, January 5, game in Regina.

Starting on January 7, Brandon will play six of their next seven games at Westoba Place. The one exception is a road game in Moose Jaw on January 18. The team’s final home game for almost two weeks is one week later on January 25.

Brandon will then end January and begin February in Alberta. They play a four-games in five-nights stretch beginning on January 28 in Edmonton and it wraps up on February 1 in Medicine Hat.

Of their 12 games in February, seven of them are against Saskatchewan teams. Two each come against Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and Regina, while the other game is against Swift Current.

Brandon begins their final extended road-trip on February 26 in Swift Current. That’s followed by a game in Calgary on February 28 and Lethbridge on February 29.

After one more road game on March 6, the Wheat Kings get to enjoy some time at home. They play March 7, 13, 14, and 18 all at Westoba Place.

The team’s regular-season weekend finale is the final two installments of the Battle of Manitoba. Winnipeg hosts Brandon on March 20, while Brandon plays host on March 21.
