Today’s Gameday Preview: Sunday December 9th, 2018

Feature Game of the Day Spokane Chiefs @ Everett Silvertips 4:05 PM PST

In one of three games on this Sunday in the Western Hockey League, it’s an all US Division bout as the Chiefs head to Everett to do battle with the first place team in the Western Conference. So far this season, the ‘Tips lead the season series by a 3-1 margin, round five goes today.

The Spokane Chiefs (16-10-2-2) had their troubles to start off the season, but seem to be turning it around as they’ve goneĀ 6-3-1-0 in their last ten and are riding a two game winning streak. The Chiefs have no problem with offense, as they’ve scored more than 110 goals on the campaign so far, but they also give up their fair share, with 105 goals against.

Scott Walford (Left) battles with Luke Toporowski (Right), March 6, 2018

After earning a point in Spokane’s game vs. Kootenay last night, Luke Toporowski has already matched his last seasons point total at 23, with over half the season still remaining. Toporowski a 2001-born, was a Chiefs first round selection in 2016, being picked eighth overall. Toporowski has lots of potential to be a big difference maker for the Chiefs in the future. Hockey blood is in the genes, as both his brother and his uncle played for the Chiefs, and also some uncles playing in the WHL as well.

The red hot Everett SIlvertips (24-7-1-0) continue to roll as they took down Seattle last night for their eighth win in a row. Rookie Sean Richards has goals in back-to-back games, and Dustin Wolf is locked in guarding the cage as the Silvertips couldn’t be looking much better. Believe it or not, the ‘Tips are just eight points back of the Prince Albert Raiders in the standings, for first place in the WHL. Max Patterson was the difference for the men in green last night, time will tell who it will be today.
