Teddy Toss Night a success as Hurricanes down Broncos 3-1

Justin Hall’s scored his first career WHL goal in a 3-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos, Hall’s goal gave Lethbridge a 1-0 lead early in the second period also doubled as the Teddy Bear goal in which 3,868 teddy bears and 661 toques flooded the ice.

After a scoreless opening frame that saw Broncos goaltender Joel Hofer stop 16 shots, the Hurricanes finally broke through and opened the scoring as Justin Hall scored his first on a breakaway at the 4:07 mark as he sent the bears and toques flying. Jake Leschyshyn and Danila Palivko picked up the assists on the goal.

The Broncos temporarily tied the game at ones on a goal by Max Patterson at the 11:54 mark.

The Hurricanes pulled back ahead as Zach Cox snapped home his ninth goal of the season on a two-on-one to make it 2-1 Hurricanes heading into the second period intermission.

In the final frame, Lethbridge added to their lead while outshooting the Broncos 14-9.

Jake Elmer slotted home his 12th goal of the season at the 6:38 mark to make it 3-1; Dylan Cozens and Koletrane Wilson assisted on the goal.

Final game shots also favoured the home side 42-26, Hofer looked brilliant for Swift Current in the loss, rookie Hurricanes netminder Carl Tetachuk picked up the victory, his fourth of the season.

Shooting the breeze: Lethbridge went 0-for-4 on the power play while going 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. The win for the Hurricanes improves their record to 12-8-3-2 on the season and 7-4-0-2 on home ice. The loss for the Broncos drops them to 4-20-1-1 on the season. Both teams are back in action Saturday as the Hurricanes travel to Medicine Hat to play their divisional rival Tigers, while Swift Current is back home for their teddy toss as they host Brandon Wheat Kings
