Rebels busy making deals

It was announced earlier today that the Red Deer Rebels have traded forward Brandon Cutler to the Victoria Royals along with a 2019 2nd round draft pick, in exchange for 16-year-old forward Dallon Melin and a 5th round selection in the 2019 bantam draft.

Melin is from nearby Camrose, AB and played last season with the Sherwood Park Kings Midget AAA team. In 27 games he scored six times and added 14 assists. Melin was unsigned by the Royals after they selected him in the second round of the 2016 WHL bantam draft. He was pegged to play in the AJHL with the Camrose Kodiaks after returning unsigned at the choice of the player.

Brayden Sullivan of draftgeek.ca describes Melin as “Strong skilled offensive presence who can works well off the cycle. Possesses WHL physical tools and adheres to the offensive game.”

18-year-old Brandon Cutler is from Spruce Grove, AB after playing parts of two seasons with the Rebels. He was a ninth round pick in the 2015 WHL bantam draft and has played in 106 WHL games, recording seven goals and seven assists.

In another deal made today, Red Deer sent defenseman Sam Pouliot to the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for a 10th round draft pick in the upcoming WHL bantam draft. The 18-year-old defenseman saw action in 16 WHL contests scoring one goal. He also saw time with the Powell River Kings of the BCHL last season. He will join his brother Ryan on the back end for the Broncos. The overage player was picked up of waivers earlier in the off-season.
