Pats This Week: Minor league alumni update

This week we’re looking at Pats alumni playing in the AHL and ECHL.

Matt Bradley (2017-18)

In 2018-19, Bradley’s first pro season saw him play in 66 games for the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers, where he collected 15 goals and 30 assists. It was also the Growlers’ first season as a franchise. The Toronto Maple Leafs’ ECHL affiliate made a deep run in the playoffs that season. Bradley added four goals and three assists in 22 games to help the team collect the Kelly Cup championship. This season, Bradley has nine goals and 23 assists in 50 games played. The Toronto Marlies called up Bradley for two games, but he did not record a point.

Adam Brooks

Adam Brooks (2012-17)

Brooks is in his third pro season with the Toronto Marlies. The Marlies won the Calder Cup in Brooks’ first year. Adam contributed eight goals and 11 assists in the regular season and added two more goals and four assists in the championship run. In the 2018-19 season, Brooks put up 21 goals in the regular season, plus 19 assists. The Marlies went deep in the playoffs again that year, losing in the conference final. Brooks contributed six goals and two assists that postseason. This season, Brooks has scored nine goals and eleven assists. On December 28, Brooks made his NHL debut with the Maple Leafs. He has played a total of seven games with the big club, recording three assists.

Kyle Burroughs (2010-15)

Burroughs has been playing pro for five seasons now, all in the New York Islanders system. He is currently the captain of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Islanders’ AHL affiliate. The majority of his pro career has been with the Tigers, with just 18 games played in the ECHL. He has 16 goals and 64 assists in his career with Bridgeport in the regular season. The team has made the playoffs just twice, Burroughs has added a goal and four assists in seven career playoff games.

Cale Fleury (2017-18)

Fleury made news when he was on the Montreal Canadiens roster out of training camp this season. After 41 games played, he was sent down to the Laval Rocket of the AHL. While with the Canadiens, Fleury scored his first career NHL goal, which was his only point with the team. With the Rocket this season, Fleury has two goals and an assist. Last season, he collected nine goals and 14 assists while playing for Laval.

Libor Hájek (2017-18)

Hájek is in his second pro season. Last year, he played most of the season with the Hartford Wolf Pack where he picked up five assists in 58 games. Hájek did earn a five-game call up to the New York Rangers where he scored his first career NHL goal. This season, he started with the Rangers, picking up five assists in 28 games, but has been sent back down to the Wolf Pack. With Hartford, he has two assists in 16 games.

Chase Harrison

Chase Harrison (2013-17)

Harrison started his pro career with the ECHL’s Jacksonville Icemen. In 2017-18, Harrison appeared in 23 games, picking up three assists. He then moved to the Norfolk Admirals for the final 45 games of the 2017-18 season, where he scored four goals and eleven assists. 2018-19 saw Harrison start in Norfolk for 51 games, picking up one goal and twelve assists. He finished the season in South Carolina with the Stingrays and collected one assist in nine games. Harrison then headed to Romania to play for ASC Corona Brasov. There, he played in 18 games, scoring one goal and eight assists. He returned back to the Icemen where he has played 31 games, collecting three goals and four assists.

Cameron Hebig (2017-18)

Hebig is in his second pro season in the Edmonton Oilers system. In 2018-19, Hebig played in 64 games, recording eleven goals and 18 assists for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors. This season has been split with Bakersfield and the ECHL’s Wichita Thunder. Hebig has nine goals and 15 assists combined this season.

Nick Henry (2016-19)

Henry is in his first pro season. A draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche, Henry is playing for their AHL affiliate, the Colorado Eagles. This season has seen Henry score twice and add six assists in 38 games played. He was able to suit up for the Eagles last season after the Lethbridge Hurricanes were eliminated from the playoffs. Henry saw game action in three regular-season games and two playoff games, recording no points.

Connor Hobbs (2014-17)

Hobbs is in his third season with the Hershey Bears, the AHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals. He has seen his season end early with a shoulder injury. Prior to the injury, Hobbs only appeared in 16 games, recording one goal and one assist. In the prior two seasons, he had put up six goals and 28 assists in 103 games played. In the 2018-19 season, Hobbs played in nine playoff games, recording one assist.

Dryden Hunt (2011-15)

In Hunt’s four pro seasons, he has bounced between the AHL and NHL. With the Florida Panthers, Hunt has played in 63 games, recording three goals and twelve assists. While with the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds, he has scored 72 goals and 78 assists in 214 games over parts of four seasons. Hunt did have a two-game stint with the ECHL’s Manchester Monarchs, picking up two goals.

Morgan Klimchuk (2010-15)

Klimchuk has played for three different AHL teams in his five pro seasons. He did suit up for one NHL game with the Calgary Flames. Klimchuk is currently with the Belleville Senators, where he has played 45 games this season, scoring 11 goals and 12 assists. 2018-19 saw Klimchuk play for the Senators, Toronto Marlies, and Stockton Heat. He recorded seven goals and six assists that season. The previous three seasons were all with Stockton, where he played in 183 games for the Heat, recording 41 goals and 51 assists.

Dawson Leedhal (2016-17)

In 2017-18, Leedhal split his time in the New York Rangers system. He started with the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, collecting two goals and six assists in 38 games. He then was sent down to the ECHL’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits, where he appeared in 24 games, scoring nine goals and 12 assists. The next season saw Leedhal start in the ECHL with the Rangers’ new affiliate, the Maine Mariners, scoring three goals and four assists in twelve games. After being called up to the Wolf Pack again, he played 29 games without recording a point. In the 2019-20 season, Leedhal has only played two games for Maine, at the start of the season. He remains on the team’s roster.

Boston Leier (2013-14)

Leier is one of those rare players who cashed in his WHL scholarship before turning pro. Boston spent four seasons playing for Acadia University in USports (2014-18) where, in 111 regular-season games, he scored 54 times and added 60 assists. Acadia made the playoffs three times in those four years, with Boston contributing 12 goals and 13 assists in 25 career playoff games. Acadia’s run culminated in a bronze medal at the 2018 USports University Cup. Leier was only able to play in one game. He scored once in the quarterfinal upset of #1 seeded Alberta. The Belleville Senators signed Leier to a contract for the rest of the season following the University Cup. Leier contributed four goals and two assists in eight games with the Senators. The next season saw Leier split his time between the Senators and the Brampton Beast of the ECHL, where he had a combined six goals and six assists that year. This season, Leier played 29 games for the Kalamazoo Wings, scoring ten goals and nine assists. Leier has just signed a professional tryout contract with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. He has played one game, recording no points.

Jake Leschyshyn

Jake Leschyshyn (2014-19)

Leschyshyn is in his first full season with the Chicago Wolves, the Las Vegas Golden Knights’ AHL affiliate. He has scored four goals and added four assists in 55 games played. In 2018-19, Leschyshyn joined the Wolves for three regular-season games and two playoff games after the Lethbridge Hurricanes season was over. He did not record any points.

Josh Mahura (2016-18)

Mahura has played 28 games in the NHL during his pro career, recording two goals and seven assists for the Anaheim Ducks. He is currently with the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls. Mahura has picked up four goals and 31 assists in 77 games in the past two seasons with the Gulls.

Jack Rodewald (2010-13)

Rodewald has spent time in the ECHL, AHL, and NHL. He has ten games played for the Ottawa Senators, recording no points. Rodewald has played parts of two seasons in the ECHL with the Orlando Solar Bears and Wichita Thunder, where he collected 23 goals and 32 assists in 68 games played. Over Rodewald’s five-year pro career, he has played in 232 AHL games for the Toronto Marlies, Belleville Senators, and his current team, the Springfield Falcons. Rodewald has recorded 60 goals and 56 assists. After his 2014-15 season was over with the Moose Jaw Warriors, Rodewald appeared in nine regular-season games and three playoff games for the Toronto Marlies, picking up one goal and one assist.

Dyson Stevenson

Dyson Stevenson (2009-14)

Stevenson has been all over the ECHL and AHL. He started in Bakersfield with the Condors for a four-game stint after the Pats season had ended in 2012-13, recording just 12 penalty minutes. In 2014-15, Stevenson saw action with four teams: the Portland Pirates of the AHL (2gp, 0g, 0a, 2pim), the ECHL’s Gwinnett Gladiators (46gp, 8g, 8a, 104pim), the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL (4gp, 5pim) and finally the ECHL’s Allen Americans (5gp, 1g, 12pim). Stevenson then spent the next two seasons in Allen, playing in 121 games and scoring 18 goals and 36 points while racking up 221 penalty minutes. Stevenson then captained the Wichita Thunder for two seasons. He amassed 290 penalty minutes while scoring 25 goals and 34 assists. Wichita loaned Stevenson to the AHL’s Utica Comets for three games at the end of the 2018-19 season, where he picked up 5 penalty minutes. This season, Stevenson has stayed with Utica where he has a goal and two assist and 53 penalty minutes.

Colby Williams (2010-16)

Williams is in his third season with the Hershey Bears, the Washington Capitals’ AHL affiliate. The former Pats captain has played in 165 regular-season games, collecting seven goals and 36 assists. He has appeared in six playoff games, recording one goal. The defenceman has been dabbling at the forward position of late for the Bears.

Riley Woods (2015-17)

Woods is in his first professional season. He started in the ECHL with the Newfoundland Growlers, where he had 13 goals and 24 assists in 43 games before being called up to the Toronto Marlies. Woods has appeared in three games for the Marlies, recording no points.
