Oil Kings take Georgaklis and Novak in the 2020 WHL U.S. Prospects Draft

 

The Edmonton Oil Kings opted to go with 2005-born forward Alexios Georgaklis with the third overall pick in the inaugural WHL U.S. Prospects Draft.

Georgaklis is a San Diego, California, native and has played his bantam with the San Diego Saints for the past two seasons.

The 6’1, 174 lbs forward racked up 85 points (44 goals, 41 assists) in 64 games for the Saints last season. In 2019, he put together a strong offensive campaign with 67 points (38 games, 29 assists) in 50 games.

In round two, Kirt Hill and his team selected John Novak with the 42nd pick.

Novak is a 5’9, 174 lbs left-handed shot defenceman from Apple Valley, Minnesota.

He was the captain of the Lakeville South Bantam AA team last season and played in 49 games collecting 21 points (6 goals, 15 assists).

Earlier today, the WHL Draft Lottery took place which was won by the Prince George Cougars. With the lottery now over, the order was determined for the upcoming draft, and the Oil Kings will select at 20th.

That draft takes place on Wednesday, April 22, online.
