Daily Dose of the Dub: WHL’ers lead Canada to decisive win; Thomson cut from Finland

Glass’ three-point night, Scott’s saves lead Canada to 2-0 start in exhibition play

Team Canada took care of business on Friday in Victoria, crushing Slovakia 6-1 in their second exhibition game leading up to the main tournament which begins on Boxing Day. Portland’s Cody Glass posted his second straight three-point effort, and the squad was backstopped by Prince Albert goalie Ian Scott, who turned aside 22-of-23 shots and kept Slovakia off the scoresheet for the first 55 minutes. Spokane d-man Ty Smith scored on a blast from the point, and his teammate Jaret Anderson-Dolan notched a pair of assists. Canada now heads to Vancouver, where they’ll take on Finland on Sunday, December 23 in their third and final exhibition game in what should be their toughest opponent thus far.

Finland makes cuts, Thompson sent home

Kelowna Rockets defenseman Lassi Thompson, the only current WHL’er on Team Finland, was part of their latest cuts on Friday. Finland’s hand was forced, as they were pleasantly surprised to have a pair of d-men with NHL experience loaned to them in Henri Jokiharju and Urho Vaakanainen.
