The Kamloops Blazers will have at least five players attending NHL development camps in the coming weeks. As previously noted here, defenseman Luke Zazula (63 GP, 3 G, 24 A with Kamloops last season) and forward Brodi Stuart (68 GP, 20 G, 18 A with Kamloops last season) are set to attend Dallas Stars camp, while graduating forward Jermaine Loewen (left unsigned by Dallas, 295 GP, 78 G, 64 A in his career with Kamloops) is off to Vegas Golden Knights camp and defenseman Montana Onyebuchi (66 GP, 5 G, 15 A with Kamloops last season) will be headed to Calgary Flames camp.

Along with the aforementioned Loewen, undrafted forwards Brayden Pachal (66 GP, 15 G, 36 A with the Prince Albert Raiders last season) and Zak Smith (67 GP, 13 G, 11 A with the Red Deer Rebels last season) will be attending Vegas Golden Knights development camp. Also of note, Golden Knights’ first-round pick and Winnipeg ICE forward Peyton Krebs will not be attending the camp. Krebs recently suffered a torn Achilles during an off-season training session and is recovering from the injury.

Vancouver Giants graduating defenseman Dylan Plouffe is set to attend Montreal Canadiens development camp. Plouffe had 23 goals and 78 assists in 244 games with the Giants before aging out of the WHL at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.

As caught by our Giants beat writer Stephen Hawco, newly-acquired Giants forward Jackson Shepard is headed to Arizona Coyotes development camp alongside teammate David Tendeck. Shepard was acquired from the Lethbridge Hurricanes last month for a third-round pick in 2021. In 66 games last season with the Hurricanes, Shepard had five goals and 17 assists.

Prince George Cougars goaltender Taylor Gauthier appears set to attend the development camp for the Boston Bruins. Gauthier was ranked seventh among North American goalies and earned an invitation to the NHL/CHL Top Prospects game. In 55 games with a bottom-tier Cougars team, Gauthier posted a 3.25 GAA and a .899 save percentage.

In an article posted on the Rebels website, the Red Deer Rebels say forward Oleg Zaytsev may not return to the team for the 2019-20 season after being passed over in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Zaytsev has played one year with the Rebels and recorded 13 goals and 30 assists in 66 games, finishing the season ranked 66th by NHL Central Scouting. Rebels Head Coach and General Manager Brent Sutter says they expect to hear Zaytsev’s decision by tomorrow and if he decides not to return, they will draft two players in Thursday’s CHL Import Draft.
