WHL announces December 4th start date

In a move that was anticipated due to the recent announcement by the Ontario Hockey League, the Western Hockey League announced that they have pushed back their start date for the 2020-21 season. Friday, December 4th is the new date, and it is still not able to be confirmed at this time that it will be the actual start date due to the nature of the ongoing pandemic. The coronavirus has already canceled the finish to the 2019-20 season, playoffs and Memorial Cup. The WHL will continue to monitor the situation and work with government and health officials as the new start date approaches.

Earlier this week the OHL announced that the 102nd Memorial Cup presented by Kia is scheduled to be played June 17-27, 2021 and will be hosted by either the Oshawa Generals or Soo Greyhounds.
