WHL announces Challenge Cup Schedule

The WHL announced the full schedule for the first-ever WHL U.S. Challenge Cup set to take place next month. The tournament will consist of 18 round-robin games and additional playoff games featuring 12 bantam teams from across the U.S. and Canada. Texas, B.C., California, Arizona, Washington State, and Alaska will all have representation at the tournament.

Brendan Kuny has been recalled by the Edmonton Oil Kings as Ethan Mcindoe deals with an undisclosed injury. He has played 10 games in Edmonton this year and has two goals and two assists. Kuny is also facing a one-game suspension in the AJHL for a goaltender interference penalty.

Justin Lies returned to the Vancouver Giants lineup on Thursday night after being out since January 4th. In 30 games this season with Vancouver he has a goal and two assists.

Spokane Chiefs goaltender Campbell Arnold provided an update on social media on his status on Thursday night saying he underwent successful surgery on a torn ACL. Arnold will now start the road to recovery as he prepares to return to the Chiefs next season.

Tristen Nielsen has been named a Hockey Gives Blood Player Ambassador. The Vancouver Giants forward will now be advocating for blood and stem cell donation as part of this new role.

Clayton signs new contract in Germany
Chase Clayton (Calgary, Saskatoon, 2010-2015) signed contract for rest of this season with Black Dragons Erfurt (Germany, Oberliga Nord) after obtaining his release from Blue Devils Weiden (Germany, Oberliga Süd). 32 GP, 12+10.

Chase Clayton (245 GP, 32 G, 52 A with the Calgary Hitmen and Saskatoon Blades from 2010-15) has signed a contract with Black Dragons Erfurt in Germany for the rest of this season. Clayton was released by BlueDevils Weiden in Germany earlier this year after scoring 12 goals and adding 10 assists in 32 games.
