Hockey Canada announces rosters for World U-17 Challenge 

Hockey Canada has announced the 66 players who will be divided up into three teams for the World U-17 Challenge. Along with the Canadian contingent, teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States will compete in the tournament. 16 WHL Players have been chosen to represent Canada:

  • Jayden Grubbe (3 A in 9 GP with the Red Deer Rebels this season)
  • Dylan Guenther (2 G, 2 A in 11 GP with the Edmonton Oil Kings this season)
  • Conner Roulette (4 G in 7 GP with the Seattle Thunderbirds this season)
  • Matthew Savoie (3 GP with the Winnipeg ICE this season)
  • Cole Sillinger (7 G, 5 A in 11 GP with the Medicine Hat Tigers this season)
  • Logan Stankoven (3 G, 2 A in 10 GP with the Kamloops Blazers this season)
  • Sean Tschigerl (1 G, 2 A in 7 GP with the Calgary Hitmen this season)
  • Kai Uchacz (2 A in 5 GP with the Seattle Thunderbirds this season)
  • Nolan Allan (1 G, 1 A in 9 GP with the Prince Albert Raiders this season)
  • Nolan Bentham (7 GP with the Victoria Royals this season)
  • Carson Lambos (2 G, 5 A in 9 GP with the Winnipeg ICE this season)
  • Kyle Masters (6 GP with the Red Deer Rebels this season)
  • Graham Sward (2 A in 4 GP with the Spokane Chiefs this season)
  • Olen Zellweger (1 A in 9 GP with the Everett Silvertips this season)
  • Tyler Brennan (1.11 GAA, .950 Save Percentage in 2 GP with the Prince George Cougars this season)
  • Thomas Milic (Spokane Chiefs prospect playing with Burnaby Winter Club in the CSSHL)

The tournament will kick off on November 2nd with pre-tournament games beginning on October 31st.

CHL announces Team WHL for Canada-Russia Series

The Canadian Hockey League announced the roster for Team OHL, Team QMJHL and Team WHL for the Canada-Russia Series set to take place from November 4-14. The WHL roster includes 20 players, eight of whom played in last year’s series:

Rebels add Sydlowski 

The Red Deer Rebels have recalled forward Blake Sydlowski from the AJHL’s Sherwood Park Crusaders. In seven games with Sherwood Park, the 2001-born winger has one assist.

CHL announces Weekly Rankings 

The Canadian Hockey League has announced its weekly rankings for Week 5 of the CHL season. Leading the way for the WHL is the Prince Albert Raiders, followed by the Edmonton Oil Kings and Medicine Hat Tigers.

Blazers to host a press conference for “event announcement”

The Kamloops Blazers say they will be holding a press conference for a “special event announcement” tomorrow. There’s no word on what this announcement might be but our Jordan Bremner will be all over it.

Milestones 

  • Brandon Wheat King Jonny Lambos scored his first goal which was assisted by Jake Chiasson for his first WHL point.
  • Everett Silvertips defenseman Olen Zellweger notched his first WHL point on a goal by Gage Goncalves

Three Stars of the Night:

First Star: Nolan Foote scored two goals and added an assist for the Kelowna Rockets

Second Star: In his Silvertips debut, Cole Fonstad had a goal and two assists.

Third Star: Gage Goncalves  had two goals for Everett

Honourable Mentions:

Kasper Puutio had two assists for Swift Current, Pavel Novak and Kaedan Korczak each had two-point games for the Rockets.
