Daily Dose of the Dub: Trade deadline passes; Pats staying put; Raiders, Rockets make other roster changes

Trade Deadline passes

Thursday’s trade deadline has come and gone after eleven deals were made which included 16 players and 14 draft picks. Since the new year, we have seen 29 deals compared to last year’s 41 trades. To see all the details on this year’s trades, take a look at the DUBNetwork’s Trade Tracker:

Pats staying put

The Regina Pats are staying at Evraz Place until at least May 2023. The Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL) who is the operator of the Pats’ arena and Queen City Sports and Entertainment Group (QCSEG), the Pats’ ownership group, announced the extension. A quote from QCSEG President Anthony Marquart says “This extension allows both parties the proper time to determine what is best when considering a refurbished or new entertainment facility.”

Other roster moves made

Just two days after being released by the Broncos, Quinton Waitzner has found a new team. The 18-year-old has signed with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL, he had two assists in 34 games with Swift Current this season.

The Prince Albert Raiders have released ‘00 Lane Kirk and ‘00 goalie Donovan Buskey. Buskey will join the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL and Kirk will join Swan Valley of the MJHL. In 11 games with the Raiders this season, Buskey has a 3.15 GAA and a .870 SV% and Kirk has yet to appear in any games this season due to injury and has played the last two seasons with Swan Valley, collecting 34 points in 109 games.

The Kelowna Rockets made a couple of transactions involving 20-year-olds. The Rockets claimed ‘98 Matt Barberis off waivers from the Vancouver Giants and have released ‘98 Lane Zablocki. The Zablocki release is a very interesting move as he was selected in the third round by the Detroit Red Wings just two years ago. Later on in the day, he signed with the Vernon Vipers of the BCHL.
