Daily Dose of the Dub: Pats and Raiders swap goalies, Blazers add Clouston to coaching staff and more

Pats, Raiders trade goalies 

The Regina Pats have acquired goaltender Donovan Buskey from the Prince Albert Raiders for goaltender Matthew Pesenti. Buskey has the slightly longer resume of the two with 37 games of WHL experience with the Raiders and Spokane Chiefs with a 19-13-0-1 record, 3.48 GAA and .870 save percentage.

Pesenti has two games of WHL experience, but won’t be joining the Raiders. He’ll be staying with the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers where he’s played five games this season with a 3-1-0-0 record, 2.43 GAA and .927 save percentage.

Blazers add Clouston to the coaching staff 

With Darryl Sydor taking a personal leave of absence, the Kamloops Blazers have brought in veteran coach Cory Clouston to be an assistant coach on a full-time interim basis. Clouston, who happens to be the younger brother of Blazers head coach Shaun Clouston, has two WHL Championships and a Memorial Cup on his resume as an assistant coach with the Kootenay ICE. He’s also a two-time winner of the WHL Coach of the Year award as head coach with the ICE and has also coached in the Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince Albert Raiders organizations.

Americans recall Dunsford from Port Moody 

The Tri-City Americans have recalled goaltender Mason Dunsford from the Port Moody Panthers in the PJHL. In three games with the Panthers, he has a 4.23 GAA and .892 save percentage.

Funk sent back to BCMML

Zac Funk has been sent back to the BCMML’s Okanagan Rockets with James Malm returning to the Calgary Hitmen lineup. Funk has played four games with the Hitmen but has no point. He’s also played four games in the Okanagan and has two goals.

Hitmen’s Wiesblatt named WHL Player of the Week

Orca Wiesblatt of the Calgary Hitmen has been named the WHL Player of the Week as he put up three goals and three assists in three games as the Hitmen continue to contend in the WHL’s Eastern Conference.

Garand named WHL Goaltender of the Week

Kamloops Blazers netminder Dylan Garand has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week after securing two huge wins for the Blazers against B.C. Division Rivals. He posted a 0.50 GAA and .980 save percentage allowing just one goal on 49 shots over the weekend with one shutout.

Hockey Canada announces roster breakdown for U-17 Challenge 

Hockey Canada has announced how they will be breaking up the 66 players named to their World U-17 Challenge roster. Team Red & Team White feature the most WHL players with six each while Team Black will have four WHL representatives on its roster.

O’Rourke joins BCHL’s Express

1999-born Ethan O’Rourke (159 GP, 19 G, 23 A with the Prince George Cougars, Everett Silvertips, and Swift Current Broncos) has joined the BCHL’s Coquitlam Express after being released by the Broncos earlier this season.

Alberta makes changes to WHL Cup Roster 

Hockey Alberta has added Carson Brisson (Moose Jaw Warriors), Kaiden Ellertson (Brandon Wheat Kings) and Reid Mackay (Lethbridge Hurricanes) to their roster for the WHL Cup. The move comes with Cale Ashcroft (Saskatoon Blades) Bowden Singleton (Vancouver Giants), and Ross Stanley (Edmonton Oil Kings) unable to compete in the tournament which begins on October 23rd in Calgary.
