McClennon out 8-10 weeks

According to Winnipeg Free Press reporter Mike Sawatzky, Winnipeg ICE forward Connor McClennon will be sidelined for the next 8-10 weeks with a broken collarbone. Prior to the injury, McClennon was putting up career-best numbers, leading the ICE in goals (21) and points (49) in 42 games this season. If all goes according to plan, McClennon should be healthy just in time for the playoffs.

Pats sign Armstrong

The Regina Pats have signed forward Easton Armstrong from the LA Jr. Kings U16 where he has 12 goals and nine assists in 16 games this season. The 10th-round pick in 2010 also happens to be teammates with the recently acquired Ean Somoza. 

Browne out with injury, Creta returns to lineup

Marco Creta returned to the Cougars lineup after an illness held him out on Tuesday.

Fizer and Schultz return for Royals

Phillip Schultz and Tarun Fizer returned to VIctoria’s lineup on Wednesday night.

Reinhardt returns to Wheat Kings lineup

Cole Reinhardt returned to the Brandon Wheat Kings lineup for the first time since December 27th

Bruggen-Cate named Thunderbirds captain

With Matthew Wedman traded to the Kelowna Rockets, the Seattle Thunderbirds have named ex-Rocket Conner Bruggen-Cate the 38th captain in franchise history.

CHL Team of the Week

Seth Jarvis (two goals, eight assists in three games) and Filip Kral (one goal, four assists in three games) were named to the CHL Team of the Week.

CHL Power rankings

Portland and Edmonton held on to the third and fifth spot respectively in the weekly CHL Power Rankings. Kamloops climbed to the seventh spot, marking their return to the rankings and the Everett Silvertips fell to eighth place. The Medicine Hat Tigers earned honourable mention.

Oilers sign Jones to a two-year contract extension

The Edmonton Oilers signed Caleb Jones (135 GP, 19 G, 98 A with the Portland Winterhawks from 2015-17) to a two-year contract extension. The younger brother of Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman (and fellow ex-Winterhawk) Seth Jones has one goal and eight assists in 40 career NHL games with Edmonton.

Helenius signs in Germany

Riku Helenius (41 GP, 2.42 GAA and .915 Save Percentage with 22-12-5-1 record in 2007-08 with the Seattle Thunderbirds) has signed with Dresdner Eislowen in Germany for the rest of this season.

Sagat released in Czech Republic

Martin Sagat (129 GP, 28 G, 78 A with the Kootenay ICE from 2003-05) has been released by Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic after one assist in five games this season.

Troubling Moment

Tri-City’s Bryan McAndrews was handed a five minute major and game misconduct for kneeing Victoria’s Brayden Tracey. Tracey left the game but did return.

First Star: Victoria’s Tarun Fizer had a hat-trick

Second Star: Calgary’s Carson Focht scored two goals

Third Star: Brandon’s Jiri Patera recorded his third shutout in five days.

Honourable Mention: Swift Current’s Isaac Poulter made 50 saves on 53 shots in a loss to Calgary.
