Daily Dose of the Dub: Krebs returns to WHL, Taphorns sign in Yorkton, Kiviniemi signs in Finland and more

Krebs returns to WHL 

Peyton Krebs has been reassigned to the Winnipeg ICE by the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights. He had been with the Golden Knights as part of his rehabilitation process after he was injured in an off-season training process. Krebs will serve a one-game suspension on Saturday which was handed to him for a checking from behind penalty in Kootenay’s final game last season. His season debut will come on Sunday against the Portland Winterhawks.

Terriers sign Taphorn twins

The SJHL’s Yorkton Terriers have signed twin brothers Kaeden Taphorn and Keenan Taphorn. The brothers had been with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the WHL but left the team for undisclosed reasons. This resulted in the brothers being suspended by the Warriors and the WHL from playing hockey in any league. There’s no word on if the suspension has been lifted by the WHL. In 176 WHL games, Kaeden Taphorn has 15 goals and 20 assists while brother Keenan has recorded 30 goals and 31 assists in 206 WHL games.

Kiviniemi signs in Finland

Joona Kiviniemi (77 GP, 22 G, 13 A with the Swift Current Broncos) has signed a contract to play in Finland for the rest of this season. Kiviniemi was traded from Swift Current to Vancouver earlier this season but left the Giants after attending two practices.

McDonald takes leave of absence from Oil Kings

The Edmonton Oil Kings announced on Friday that 1999-born defenseman Conner McDonald has taken a leave of absence from the club to attend to a family matter. McDonald, who hasn’t played since November 1st, has two goals and six assists in 15 games this season.

Oil Kings recall Schaufler

In a corresponding move, the Oil Kings added Loeden Schaufler to the active roster from the AJHL’s Spruce Grove Saints. In 73 WHL games with the Kootenay ICE, Seattle Thunderbirds and Prince Albert Raiders, Schaufler has 10 assists. He joined the Saints earlier this season after being released by the Raiders. In 16 games, he has five goals and eight assists.

Hitmen recall Funk 

The Calgary Hitmen have recalled Zac Funk from the Okanagan Rockets of the BCMML as they get set to head out on a five-game road trip. In 10 games with Okanagan, he’s notched seven goals and three assists. He’s also played four games with the Hitmen this season but has yet to register a point.

Mikhalchuk officially returns to Cougars

Vladislav Mikhalchuk officially made his return to the WHL on Friday night after delays getting his paperwork processed by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Prince George Cougars fell in his return 1-0 to the Kamloops Blazers.

Raiders announce Ugly Christmas Sweater Night

The Prince Albert Raiders will be hosting an Ugly Christmas Sweater Night on December 13th and will wear these jerseys when they take on the Winnipeg ICE.

Bartosak released by Třinec

Patrik Bartosak (145 GP with the Red Deer Rebels from 2011-14) has come to terms on a mutual release from his contract with Třinec in the Czech Republic. In a statement, Bartosak says he has been dealing with mental illness and alcohol problems. In 11 games this season, Bartosak posted a 1.99 GAA and .933 save percentage with two shutouts.

Kovar released by Bees

Robin Kovar (142 GP, 24 G, 51 A with the Vancouver Giants and Regina Pats from 2001-04) has been released by the Bracknell Bees in England after scoring six goals and adding five assists in 12 games.

First Star: Spokane Chiefs forward Jack Finley scored two goals

Second Star: Spokane Chiefs forward Eli Zummack had a goal and two assists.

Third Star: Victoria Royals forward Gary Haden had a goal and an assist.
