On Thursday the Calgary Flames announced that ex-Kamloops Blazer player and current minority owner of that same franchise Jarome Iginla would have his number 12 retired. The ceremony will take place on Mar 2, 2019 before a game against the Minnesota Wild. Iginla, while playing for the Blazers won two Memorial Cups and was named the Western Hockey League Player of the Year in 1996. He finished his WHL career with 236 points in 183 games.

The ex-Portland Winterhawk Nino Niederreiter was traded from Minnesota to Carolina on Thursday. Niederreiter had 130 points in 120 games during his WHL career.
