Former Chiefs prospects passes suddenly

Former Spokane Chiefs prospect Nakeh Lamothe passed away suddenly after playing in a hockey game Friday night. Lamothe became unwell after playing for MacEwan University against SAIT where he was rushed to hospital where he passed away just before midnight. The 23-year-old was known for his tenacious play and being a leader in his small community of Calling Lake, Alberta. He played in seven preseason games with the Chiefs between the 2011 and 2012 preseasons, collecting a goal. Lamothe played 118 games in the Junior ‘A’ ranks and was in his third season with MacEwan University.

Raiders forward scores first hat trick

Prince Albert Raiders forward Noah Gregor scored his first career hat trick in a 7-3 win over Kootenay on Friday. The San Jose Sharks prospect’s 30th goal of the season surpassed his career high of 29 which he recorded last year between Moose Jaw and Victoria. The overage forward has 268 points in 238 WHL games.

Three Stars of the Night

1st Star: Everett’s Zack Andrusiak recorded the sixth hat trick of his WHL career as well as an assist in a 9-1 win over Lethbridge.

2nd Star: Prince Albert’s Noah Gregor had a hat trick in the Raiders’ 7-3 win over Kootenay.

3rd Star: Swift Current’s Riley Lamb had 48 saves in a big 5-4 OT win over Saskatoon.

Brandon’s Stelio Mattheos had two assists and the shootout winner in a 3-2 win over Regina….Moose Jaw’s Justin Almeida scored twice and added an assist in a 3-1 win over Medicine Hat….Red Deer’s Brandon Hagel scored twice including the game winner in a 5-1 win over Prince George….Blazers captain Jermaine Loewen scored twice in a 3-2 SO win over Victoria….Kelowna’s Roman Basran had 37 saves in a losing effort….Portland’s Lane Gilliss had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 OT win over Seattle….Tri-City’s Beck Warm had 47 saves in a 3-1 win over Spokane….

Troubling Moments

On the play Rebels forward Cameron Hausinger appeared to push Jackson Leppard dangerously into the boards. He was assessed a two minute minor for boarding and Leppard also received two minutes on the play when he attempted to goad Hausinger into a fight after the whistle. The two players continued to chirp each other in the penalty box and a linesman had to watch as they exited the box. They did not end up fighting for the remainder of the evening.
