After trading away one of their leaders in Josh Paterson to Portland, the Saskatoon Blades had a vacancy in their leadership group. That open spot has been filled by 17-year-old Kirby Dach after he was named the team’s third alternate captain. He had also just been named one of the captains for the upcoming CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. The 2019 NHL Draft prospect has produced 50 points in 43 games.

15-year-old defenceman Carson Lambos scored his first WHL goal in his fifth game on Saturday in Brandon. The power-play goal was an unique situation as his older brother, Jonny, was in the penalty box for the Wheat Kings, giving the ICE the man advantage.

Medicine Hat Tigers forward Nick McCarry scored his first WHL goal to open the scoring in a 5-3 win over Swift Current. The 17-year-old had recently been called up for the remainder of the season after playing the first half with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons of the AJHL where he had 14 points in 30 games. He has one goal and is a +2 in four games this season with the Tigers.

Former Calgary Hitmen, Tri-City Americans, Vancouver Giants and Moose Jaw Warriors defenceman Josh Thrower has been recalled to the Iowa Wild of the AHL from the ECHL’s Allen Americans. The 22-year-old is in his second season of the professional hockey, spending it all in Allen, Texas where he has played alongside his older brother, Dalton Thrower, who is a former Blades and Giants defenceman. The Squamish, BC native skated in 309 WHL games, producing 73 points in 421 penalty minutes.

2nd Star: Kelowna’s Nolan Foote had a goal and two assists in a 4-3 shootout victory over Prince Albert.
3rd Star: Lethbridge’s Carl Tetachuk had stopped 35 of 36 shots in a 2-1 win over Red Deer.
