Daily Dose of the Dub: Brown, Mitchell back from injury, Gaglardi sour about Memorial Cup and more

Mitchell back in the lineup for Regina

Makai Mitchell was back in the lineup for the Regina Pats on Tuesday night, sooner than many thought possible, after he was injured in a game against the Everett Silvertips. He had been out of the lineup since January 12th. Meanwhile, Sloan Stanick was out of the lineup with an upper-body injury according to Regina Pats play-by-play man Phil Andrews.

Brown returns for Tigers

Elijah Brown was back in the lineup for the Medicine Hat Tigers after missing the last 13 games with an injury. Nick McCarry was not in the lineup and Medicine Hat News reporter Ryan McCracken says that’s due to illness.

Gaglardi sounds off on Memorial Cup 

In an interview with Kamloops This Week, Kamloops Blazers owner Tom Gaglardi says he’s “sour” over the Kamloops Blazers being passed over for this year’s Memorial Cup in favour of their rival, the Kelowna Rockets. He says the league did the “wrong thing” and they were “judged to have the best team to host.” If the season ended today, the Blazers would be headed for a first-round matchup with those Kelowna Rockets which would certainly be a heckuva match-up, especially after these comments.

Oil Kings clinch playoff spot

With the Regina Pats snapping their five-game win streak against Medicine Hat on Tuesday, the Edmonton Oil Kings have become the second team to clinch a spot in this year’s WHL playoffs.

WHL almost sweeps CHL Team of the Week

The WHL almost completed a clean sweep of this week’s CHL Team of the Week with Spokane Chiefs forward Adam Beckman, Vancouver Giants forward Tyler Preziuso, Portland Winterhawks defenseman Johnny Ludvig, Everett Silvertips defenseman Jake Christiansen, and Red Deer Rebels goaltender being honoured this week.

Raiders to host an alumni golf tournament

The Prince Albert Raiders will be hosting an alumni golf tournament this summer as part of their 50th season celebrations. Among those scheduled to attend are Dave Tippett, Jeremy Colliton, Scott Hartnell, and Terry Simpson.

Bouwmeester suffers medical emergency 

Former Medicine Hat Tigers defenseman Jay Bouwmeester collapsed on the bench during the first period of the St. Louis Blues game against the Anaheim Ducks. In a statement, Blues general manager Doug Armstrong says Bouwmeester suffered a cardiac episode but is now in stable condition and undergoing further testing at a hospital in Anaheim.

Steelheads sign Wardley

The Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL have signed defenseman Evan Wardley (208 GP, 9 G, 31 A with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2010-15) for the rest of this season. Wardley had been playing for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns where he had one goal and one assist in 24 games this season.

Kennedy awarded Order of Hockey in Canada

Sheldon Kennedy (175 GP, 134 G, 153 A with the Moose Jaw Warriors and Swift Current Broncos from 1984-1989) will be honoured with the Order of Hockey in Canada this summer. Kennedy’s on-ice contributions are shadowed by his work off the ice as an advocate for the prevention of bullying, abuse, discrimination, and harassment.

Edmonton Oil Kings:

–Tyler Horstmann was listed as returning from injury but was scratched as a game-time decision over the weekend and has not played since December 30th.

Everett Silvertips:

–Hunter Campbell and Michal Gut were both hurt on Friday. Officially Campbell is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury and Gut is day-to-day with an upper-body ailment.

Moose Jaw Warriors:

-Defensemen Carson Sass (day-to-day from 1-2 weeks) and Cole Jordan (3 weeks from 4 weeks) and forward Owen Hardy (1-2 weeks from 3-4 weeks) are getting closer to returning. Also, forward Eric Alarie and defenseman Cayde Augustine were both officially listed on the report after missing time over the weekend. Alarie and Augustine are both day-to-day with lower-body injuries.

Portland Winterhawks:

-Defenseman Clay Hanus is listed as returning from injury. He has not played since January 31st.

Prince George Cougars:

–Nikita Krivokrasov is now listed as out being out 7-10 days after being week-to-week last week. Ethan Browne is day-to-day with an illness after being scratched on Sunday.

Regina Pats:

–Jakob Brook is nearing return but is still out 10-14 days now with his lower-body ailment.

Seattle Thunderbirds:

–Henrik Rybinski joined Zach Ashton as out week-to-week. Rybinski’s is an upper-body issue.

Spokane Chiefs:

–Brad Ginnell is listed as out day-to-day with a lower-body ailment after being scratched on Sunday.

Tri-City Americans:

-Defenseman Bryan McAndrews was added to the injury report as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Victoria Royals:

-2003-born goalie Keegan Maddocks was called up from Delta Prep in the CSSHL as overage goalie Shane Farkas has been downgraded to week-to-week. Meanwhile Sean Gulka and Will Warm are day-to-day.

Winnipeg ICE:

-Overage forward Isaac Johnson was added to the list as day-to-day with a lower-body issue.

Three Stars:

First Star: Victoria’s Phillip Schultz tallied two goals

Second Star: Medicine Hat’s Jonathan Brinkman recorded two goals

Third Star: Medicine Hat’s Ryan Chyzowski notched two goals.

Honourable Mentions

Victoria’s Adam Evanoff made 37 saves on 38 shots. Medicine Hat’s Elijah Brown had a goal and two assists.
