Blazers sign Swedish Import Draft pick

The 2001-born defenseman has signed with the Kamloops Blazers for the 2020-21 season following five seasons in various Swedish junior hockey leagues. Persson played last season with Brynas IF J20 team of the SuperElit league, where he posted five goals and 13 assists in 26 games. He was the Blazers’ first-round selection in the 2020 CHL Import Draft.

Two goalies with WHL experience selected in the NAHL entry draft

Following parts of four WHL seasons, including having to take the entire 2017-18 season off due to injury, Stankowski was selected 19th overall by the Shreveport Mudbugs of the NAHL. Last season Stankowski spent time with the Calgary Hitmen before playing in the BCHL with the Penticton Vees. He had played 18 games with the Vees posting a 2.08 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage before the coronavirus shut down the season. On June 26th, Stankowski was dealt to the Grande Prairie Storm for another goaltender (Kaiden Lane).

Also selected was current Swift Current Broncos goaltender Isaiah DiLaura, who spent the season split between the Portland Winterhawks and the Broncos. The product of Lakeville, MN was 4-10-0-2 in 2019-2020 with a 4.27 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.

Sylvester signs with ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators

Sylvester (315GP, 97G, 132A with Calgary Hitmen) has signed a professional contract with the Atlanta Gladiators of the ECHL. Sylvester is coming off his third season with EC Bad Nauheim of the DEL2 in Germany. Over the three seasons the 5-foot-11, 192-pound forward scored 58 goals and added 89 assists in 128 games. The Gladiators will be his third ECHL team following a stint with the Wheeling Nailers (2013-14) and the South Carolina Stingrays (2014-15).

Draisaitl named a Hart Trophy finalist

Draisaitl (160GP, 78G, 138A with Prince Albert Raiders and Kelowna Rockets) has been named a finalist for the NHL’s Most Valuable Player Trophy – the Hart Memorial Trophy. In 71 NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers, Draisaitl scored 43 goals and added 67 assists to lead all scorers. He also had the most assists of any player. It was his sixth NHL season.

Blades announce new podcast with Lazaruk and Bach

The Saskatoon Blades have one of the WHL’s most engaging social media presences and they went one deeper by announcing their very own podcast. The show will be hosted by Mitch Bach and DUBNetwork’s own Les Lazaruk. The venture is a partnership between the Saskatoon Blades and Saskatoon Media Group.

Signed Americans prospect attending U20 camp

The Tri-City Americans were one of the first teams to announce they had signed one of their CHL Import Draft selections. Golian has been participating in Slovakia’s U20 camp taking place in Zvolen, SVK. The 2001-born defenseman spent last season with HC Detva of the Slovakia men’s league.

WHL alumni signs in the VHL

Chirva (61GP, 3G, 4A with Moose Jaw and Kootenay) signed a tryout deal with Zautalie Kurgan of the VHL,  Russia’s second-highest hockey league. He has been found on the roster here.
