After releasing Jackson Caller, the Kamloops Blazers had an open spot for an overage player. That is no longer the case as the team made a big move acquiring Ryan Hughes from the Saskatoon Blades for Jerzy Orchard, a 2022 second-round WHL Bantam Draft pick and a third-round pick in 2021. Both picks are Kamloops’ own picks. Hughes is a veteran of 250 WHL games tallying 78 goals and 105 assists. In two games with the Blades this year, he registered two goals and an assist. Hughes and Blazers General Manager Matt Bardsley also have familiarity from their time together in Portland.

The Edmonton Oil Kings have acquired forward Ethan Mcindoe from the Spokane Chiefs for Winnipeg’s fourth-round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft (acquired in the Brendan Semchuk trade) and Edmonton’s fifth-round pick in the 2021 WHL Bantam Draft. The 1999-born Mcindoe has yet to suit up this season but is expected back sometime in October. In 286 WHL games, he has 70 goals and 70 assists.
For Spokane, the move leaves them with Jake McGrew, Noah King, and Filip Kral as their overage players on the active roster. On the Edmonton side, they’re left with Mcindoe, Riley Sawchuk, Conner McDonald, and Dylan Myskiw meaning they’ll have to move out one of those players. Edmonton Oil Kings broadcaster Andrew Peard reports Myskiw will be the odd man out and has been told to await a move.
