Daily Dose of the Dub: Blades sign draft pick; Alexeyev scores against the States; former Rebels/Pats gets first NHL goal

Blades ink draft pick 

The Saskatoon Blades have signed 2018 draft pick defenseman Spencer Shugrue to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. Shugrue was selected in the ninth round, 184th overall by the Blades after playing his Bantam season for the Delta Hockey Academy. This season he plays for the Los Angeles Jr. Kings U16 team where he has four assists and 14 penalty minutes in 19 games.

Alexeyev scores vs USA

Red Deer Rebels defenceman Alexander Alexeyev contributed a goal for Russia in their 3-2 loss to the USA during world junior preliminary action in Kamloops, BC. Russia opens their tournament on December 27th against Denmark. The Capitals first round pick has 31 points in 30 WHL games this season.

Mahura gets first NHL goal

Former Red Deer Rebel and Regina Pat Josh Mahura recorded the first goal of his NHL career Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to Boston. The 2016 third round pick of the Ducks spent four seasons in the WHL between Red Deer and Regina, playing in 186 games. He has two points in 11 NHL games this season as well as nine points in  14 AHL games this year with San Diego.

Hart etching his name in history

Former Everett Silvertip goalie Carter Hart earned his second NHL win in his second career start on Thursday, being the seventh youngest goalie in NHL history to achieve this feat. Hart put up 31 saves in a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators as well as earning first star of the game for a second straight game. He has a 1.50 GAA and a .944 SV% to go with the two wins to start his promising NHL career.
