Dach recalled by Blackhawks 

The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled Kirby Dach from his conditioning stint with the Rockford IceHogs. Dach played three games with Rockford and was pointless. The watch is now on to see if he sticks with Chicago or is returned to the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades.

Savoie returns to ICE 

2019 first overall pick Matthew Savoie is back in the Winnipeg ICE lineup this weekend for two games against the Saskatoon Blades. He’s played in three of nine games for the ICE so far and has gone pointless. He’s also played seven games for RINK Hockey Academy in the CSSHL and has seven goals and 13 assists.

Taphorns scratched for second consecutive game 

Kaeden Taphorn and Keenan Taphorn have been scratched in two consecutive games for the Moose Jaw Warriors. Neither player was listed on the league’s most recent injury report and the team will only say that they have been scratched from the lineup.

Broncos’ Fairlie called on to back up for Cougars

Eagle-eyed WHL fans will have noticed that Jordan Fairlie suited up for the Prince George Cougars as their back-up netminder on Friday night. Fairlie, of course, is signed by the Swift Current Broncos and made his debut with the club earlier this season. He was allowed to play for the Cougars as an “emergency situation back-up” as Cougars netminder Tyler Brennan is out with an injury and since Fairlie is currently with the local BCMML team, the Cariboo Cougars, he was easily available for Friday’s game. We’ve been told he remains on Swift Current’s 50-man protected list.

Jacob Herman was Taylor Gauthier’s back-up last weekend after being signed out of the Swift Current Legionnaires but has since been returned.

Pats recall Pesenti 

The Regina Pats have recalled 18-year-old netminder Matthew Pesenti from the SJHL’s Kindersley Klippers. Pesenti played two games with the Pats last season and posted a 5.99 GAA and .706 save percentage. He’s played five games this year in the SJHL with a 2.43 GAA and .927 save percentage.

Rockets go back to Foote family for next captain 

The Kelowna Rockets have named Nolan Foote the team’s 25th captain in franchise history. The Rockets went without a captain last season and their last captain was Nolan’s older brother Cal Foote who was captain for the 2017-18 season. Foote has spent his entire WHL career with Kelowna after being drafted in the second round of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

Blazers to honour Memorial Cup teams 

The Kamloops Blazers will be honouring the franchise’s six Memorial Cup Championships in February 2020 as they mark 25 years since their last Memorial Cup. The team will bring in various alumni as well as Canadian Country music artist Gord Bamford, whose son Nash Bamford was selected by Kamloops this year, for the celebrations.

Hitmen reveal new jersey to honor the Hitman 

The Calgary Hitmen have revealed the jerseys they will be donning when the team honours their co-founder Bret “The Hitman” Hart on November 2nd. In a separate announce the Hitmen also announced that they will be broadcasting this Sunday’s game in Punjabi for their Diwali celebration. It’s the first time a Hitmen game has been broadcast in Punjabi.

  • Lethbridge’s Jett Jones tallied his first WHL goal.
  • Moose Jaw’s Cole Jordan made his WHL debut.
  • Swift Current’s Josh Davies also made his WHL debut.

Bjorkstrand records 100th NHL point 

Oliver Bjorkstrand (193 GP, 144 G, 146 A with the Portland Winterhawks) notched his 100th career point in the NHL in his 204th career game all with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Fleury breaks scoreless streak to score first NHL Goal

Haydn Fleury (259 GP, 30 G, 104 A with the Red Deer Rebels) scored his first NHL goal in his 95th NHL game. The goal came a day after Fleury became the active leader in career games without an NHL goal.

Corbett signs with Condors 

Cody Corbett (190 GP, 30 G, 99 A with the Edmonton Oil Kings) has signed a professional try-out contract with the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors. Corbett spent last year in Italy recording four goals and 14 assists in 33 games.

Bertaggia signs in Switzerland 

Alessio Bertaggia (110 GP, 53 G, 50 A with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Spokane Chiefs) has signed a two-year contract extension with Lugano in Switzerland. In 14 games this year, he has five goals and 2 assists.

Three Stars of the Night:

First Star: Kamloops’ Zane Franklin had a hat-trick and added an assist

Second Star: Calgary’s Orca Wiesblatt had two goals an assist

Third Star: Everett’s Bryce Kindopp matched those totals with two goals and an assist of his own.

Honourable Mention 

Kamloops’ Martin Lang and Victoria’s Tarun Fizer each had a goal and two assists. Gauthier again puzzled the Spokane Chiefs, stopping 37-of-38 in a 2-1 win this time for P.G.
