BC Division given go-ahead to play

Following approval by the B.C. Provincial Health Officer, the Western Hockey League’s five teams in the province have a start date of March 26. The teams will play in two hub cities, Kamloops and Kelowna, and be subject to self-quarantining from March 6th until they arrive at their respective WHL Hub Centre on March 13th where they will then be required to take a Covid test and quarantine for an additional period.

Jarvis reassigned to Portland

Forward Seth Jarvis (130GP, 58G, 81A) has been reassigned by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Portland Winterhawks. Jarvis had been playing with the Hurricanes AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, where he had collected seven goals and four assists in 11 games to lead the AHL in scoring. Jarvis is a signed first-round 2020 NHL Draft pick of the Hurricanes.

Wolf reassigned to Silvertips

Goaltender Dustin Wolf (127GP, 88-31-6, 1.85GAA, .934sv%) has been reassigned by the Calgary Flames to the Everett Silvertips following three games with the Stockton Heat. Wolf posted a 2-1-0 record with a 3.24 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage with the Heat. He also appeared in two games at the IIHF World Junior Championships, posting a 1-0-0 record, without allowing a goal.

Hitmen roster released

The Calgary Hitmen released their 2020-21 season roster ahead of their games this coming weekend against the Red Deer Rebels. Calgary enters the shortened season with six rookies on the roster, four players born in 2003 and two in 2004. The team’s three 20-year-old players are Orca Wiesblatt, Josh Prokop, and Riley Stotts.

Chiefs roster released

The Spokane Chiefs released their 2020-21 season roster ahead of their game on March 19th in Seattle. Spokane enters the shortened season with nine rookies on the roster, six players born in 2003 and three in 2004. The team’s three 20-year-old players are Eli Zummack, Matt Leduc, and Bobby Russell.

Americans roster released

The Tri-City Americans released their 2020-21 season roster ahead of hosting the Portland Winterhawks on March 18th. Tri-City enters the shortened season with eight rookies on the roster, one player born in 2000, one born in 2001, four players born in 2003, and two in 2004. The team’s three 20-year-old players are Luke Zazula, Jack Barnes, and Nick Bowman.

Jeannot makes NHL debut

Forward Tanner Jeannot (267GP, 77G, 93A with Moose Jaw ’14-18) made his NHL debut with the Nashville Predators last night and played 6:28. Jeannot was not drafted by the Warriors or the Predators. This season Jeannot has played for the ECHL’s Florida Everblades (5GP, 3G, 3A) and the AHL’s Chicago Wolves (6GP, 3G, 5A)

Garand makes his first professional start

Goaltender Dylan Garand (72GP, 40-19-6, 2.50 GAA, .913sv% with Kamloops) made his first professional start with the Hartford Wolf Pack in a losing effort to the Providence Bruins, 4-2. Garand is an unsigned fourth-round pick of the New York Rangers from the 2020 NHL Draft. Garand also appeared in one game at the IIHF World Junior Championships.

Blichfeld called up, Gregor reassigned

Forward Joachim Blichfeld (187GP, 105G, 123A with Portland ’16-’19) has been called up by the San Jose Sharks from the San Jose Barracuda. In six games this season with the Barracuda, Blichfeld has scored six goals and added three assists. He also spent 12 games with the Frederikshavn White Hawks in Denmark where he registered five goals and seven assists. Blichfeld is a signed 2016 seventh-round pick of the Sharks.

Forward Noah Gregor (257GP, 129G, 164A with Moose Jaw, Victoria, and Prince Albert ’14-’19) has been reassigned by the San Jose Sharks to the San Jose Barracuda. In 14 games with the Sharks, Gregor had three goals. Gregor was a member of the 2018-19 Prince Albert Raiders team that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup. Gregor is a signed 2016 fourth-round draft pick of the Sharks.

Fyten names Nailers captain

Forward Austin Fyten (193GP, 55G, 67A with Lethbridge and Vancouver) has been named the captain of the 2020-21 Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. In 15 games this season, Fyten has 11 goals and an assist for the Nailers. He spent last season in Germany playing for the Eispiraten Crimmitschau of the DEL.
