Daily Dose of the DUB: Americans sign prospect, LaBarbera moves up to the NHL, and more

Freer signs with Americans

Drew Freer has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Tri-City Americans. Freer was a sixth-round pick of the Americans in 2020 and is eligible to play five games with the team once the 2020-21 season is underway. This season with the NWCAA Stampeders U16 AAA team, Freer scored once and added four assists in two games. With the Calgary Flames U15 AAA team, Freer had 30 goals and 18 assists over 33 games.

Labarbera joins Flames goaltending department

Jason Labarbera (140GP, 62-58-14, 3.29GAA, .901sv% with Tri-City, Portland, and Spokane ’96-’00) has joined the newly created goaltending department of the Calgary Flames. LaBarbera brings with him 187 games of NHL experience along with 338 games in the AHL.  Most recently LaBarbera was the goaltending coach for the Calgary Hitmen.

Zawatsky signs with German3 league team

Alec Zawatsky (107GP, 17G, 19A with Saskatoon, Swift Current, and Moose Jaw ’17-’19) has signed with the Blue Devils Weiden of the Germany3 hockey league. Zawatsky spent all of last season with the Yorkton Terriers of the SJHL.

Langkow signs to play in Slovakia

Chris Langkow (263GP, 53G, 101A with Spokane, Saskatoon, and Everett ’05-’10) has signed with HC Kosice of the Slovakian hockey league. Last season Langkow played for MAC Ujbuda of the same league where he scored 23 goals and added 17 assists in 40 games.

Bauer released by ECHL’s Thunder

Lane Bauer (261GP, 97G, 110A with Edmonton and Kamloops ’13-’17) has been released by the Wichita Thunder of the ECHL. The move comes after three seasons with the team and one game this season. Bauer played 154 games with the Thunder scoring 18 times and adding 46 assists.
