DUBNetwork’s Traci Kay has learned that the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge has been awarded to the communities of Swift Current and Medicine Hat. The best U-17’s in the world will descend on these two WHL cities as they co-host the prestigious event.
This tournament has often served as a breaking out for elite talent. Some players who have cut their teeth in this international tournament are:
- Auston Matthews, Team USA, 2014
- Aaron Ekblad, Team Ontario, 2012
- Taylor Hall, Team Ontario, 2008
- Patrick Kane, Team USA, 2005
- Jonathan Toews, Team West, 2005
- Alexander Ovechkin, Team Russia, 2002
The 2018 edition is being held in Quispamsis and Saint John New Brunswick starting on November 3rd and running through the 10th.
