Daily Dose of the Dub: De Roose released; Luding shines for the Blades

Moose Jaw releases veteran forward

1999-born forward Tristyn De Roose was released by the Moose Jaw Warriors. The defending East Division champions got down to 13 forwards at the expense of the hard-working De Roose. The 6-foot-3, 178 pound was acquired from the Vancouver Giants at the start of the 2017-18 regular season in exchange for a sixth-round Bantam pick in 2020.

He had seven points in 47 games with the Warriors last year and a goal in nine playoff games.

3 Stars of the night:

  1. Dorrin Luding returned to the net for the Saskatoon Blades and stopped all 42 shots he faced for his second career shutout as the Blades beat the Calgary Hitmen 3-0 on the road.
  2. Joachim Blichfeld is tied for the league lead in points (13) as he had two goals and an assist for three points in the Portland Winterhawks 5-3, come-from-behind win over the Kamloops Blazers. Ryan Hughes also scored in his season debut for the Winterhawks as he came back from an injury.
  3. Austin Pratt had two goals and an assist for three points as the Regina Pats held off the Swift Current Broncos 6-5. The Broncos still are absent a win after five tries so far this year.

Honorable mentions:

-Peyton Krebs had two assists and the shootout winner as the Kootenay ICE edged the Edmonton Ol Kings 5-4… Noah Gregor’s return to the WHL is going quite well. He had two goals and an assist for three points as the Prince Albert Raiders stayed perfect with a 5-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes… David Tendeck stopped all 24 shots he saw as the Vancouver Giants turned away the Prince George Cougars 3-0. Tendeck now has four career shutouts… Josh Brook had the overtime winning goal and two assists as the Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2… Mads Sogaard stopped 39-of-41 shots and all three shootout attempts for the Medicine Hat Tigers as they won a key road game over the Spokane Chiefs 3-2. Division game; 4-3 over the Kelowna Rockets… Connor Dewar netted the overtime winner as the Everett Silvertips edged the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2.

Troubling moments:

-Jermaine Loewen was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a check to the head of Portland defenseman Matt Quigley in the first period. Quigley did not return.

-Everett forward Sean Richards was given a five-minute major for a hit on Seattle defenseman Reece Harsch. Last year Richards was given a one-game suspension for a check to the head he delivered against Regina on 11/19/17. Then on 1/21/18, he was given two games for a match penalty against Swift Current. Lastly, against Seattle on 2/16/18, he was assessed a four game suspension for a hit from behind.
