This day in Broncos history – March 18

2001

The Swift Current Broncos were playing their final game of the regular season against their divisional rival, the Prince Albert Raiders. Swift Current was headed to the playoffs in 2001 and Prince Albert was not. The Broncos knocked off the Raiders with a 3-1 win. Goals were scored by Matt Sommerfeld, Tim Smith, and Layne Ulmer. It was Ulmer’s 63rd goal of the season. B.J. Boxma made 23 saves in the win.

2005

In their second last game of the 2004-05 season, the Broncos fell to the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-0. The Broncos were not headed to the postseason dance while the Tigers were headed to another division banner. Kyle Moir made 33 saves in the loss, Matt Keetley made 25 saves in the win.

2006

The Broncos hooked up with the Tigers again as the season wound down. It was the last regular-season game for the Broncos as they locked up the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Broncos took a 3-2 loss to the Tigers. Dane Crowley (his first WHL goal) and Marc Desloges scored for the Broncos and Kyle Moir had 27 saves in the loss.

2011

Another tough season for the Broncos as they missed the postseason dance. The team took on the Prince Albert Raiders and lost 6-3. Broncos goals were scored by Brad Hoban, Stepan Novotny, and Taylor Vause. Mark Friesen made 37 saves in the loss. Justin Maylan scored twice for the Raiders.

2016

It was another season of tough luck for the Broncos as they failed to make the postseason. The Broncos took on the Regina Pats in their second-to-last game of the season. Regina pulled out a 5-4 win in overtime, Connor Hobbs scored just 10 seconds into the extra frame. Swift Current had goals from Artyom Minulin, Jamal Watson, Calvin Spencer, and Colby Sissons. Travis Child and Taz Burman split the goaltending duties.

2017

With a playoff position locked down, the Broncos took on the Moose Jaw Warriors. It was a memorable game for the wrong reasons though as the Warriors took it to the Broncos beating them 10-5. Jayden Halbegewachs scored four times and added three assists to climb over 50 goals and 100 points on the season. The Broncos had four different scorers including two from Conner Chaulk, and one apiece from Riley Stotts, MacKenzie Wight, and Riley Lindgren. Bailey Brkin was in net for the entire game and allowed 10 goals on 53 shots.
