Regina Pats Weekly Wrap 3

The Pats won two and lost two in the third week of the 2020-21 season. At the halfway point of the season, the Pats had a 4-6-2-0 record in the Subway WHL Hub.

Game 9

Regina faced the Swift Current Broncos for their second go-round in the Hub and they came out guns blazing. The Pats took leads of 3-1 and 7-4 by period on the way to a 9-4 win.

Carson Denomie scored a pair of goals for the Pats. Zack Smith also scored a pair, his first two of the season. Logan Nijhoff, Easton Armstrong (first career goal), Connor Bedard, Sloan Stanick (first of the season), and Carter Massier also scored in the win. Bedard added three assists for a four-point game.

Roddy Ross made 25 saves in the win for the Pats.

Eric Houk, Matthew Ward, Bode Hagen, and Owen Williams replied for the Broncos. Reid Dyck went the distance making 31 saves in the loss.

Game 10

Pats celebrate a win over the Warriors (Keith Hershmiller/WHL)

The Pats met the Moose Jaw Warriors for game two of the season’s Trans-Canada Clash.

Moose Jaw won the first contest in a 5-4 overtime comeback win. The Pats were looking to return the favor.

Rookie phenom Bedard opened the scoring for the Pats in the second period to take the lead heading into the third period. Moose Jaw scored twice to take the lead before Massier tied the game with less than eight minutes left.

Layton Feist scored his second career goal and it was the overtime winner. His shot eluded the Warrior goal to give the Pats a 3-2 win.

Ross made 28 saves in his best appearance of the season for the Pats.

Braden Yager and Eric Alarie scored the Warrior goals. Brett Mirwald made 38 saves in the loss.

Game 11

Pats and Wheat Kings action (Keith Hershmiller/WHL)

Up next for the Pats were the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Pats wanted to keep their streak going but those hopes did not last long.

The Wheat Kings made the Pats pay for their mistakes in their defensive zone. Brandon took a 4-0 first-period lead and never looked back in a 7-2 win.

Colby Wotton scored his first career goal and Denomie added to his league-leading total with his 10th for the Pats.

Ross got his third straight start making 21 saves in the loss.

Six different Wheat Kings scored in the win led by Lynden McCallum. Braden Schneider, Riley Ginnell, Nolan Ritchie, Ridly Greig, and Tyson Zimmer also scored for the winners.

Ethan Kruger made 26 saves in the Wheat King win.

Game 12

Pats and ICE opening faceoff (Keith Hershmiller/WHL)

The Pats were looking to rebound against the talented Winnipeg ICE.

The ICE scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back in a 5-2 win. Winnipeg used a quick-strike offense scoring their first goal at 1:52 of the first and second goal at 26 seconds of the second.

Nijhoff and Denomie scored for the Pats in the loss.

Ross with his fourth straight start made 32 saves in the loss.

Winnipeg had five different players score in the win. Syler Bruce (first career), Connor McLennon, Jakin Smallwood, Conor Geekie, and Zachary Benson were the ICE scorers.

Rookie Daniel Hauser made 32 saves to go a perfect 4-0 to start his career.

Bedard still streaking

What else can be said about Bedard and his importance to the Pats? He has points in all 12 games he has played. He is the East Division Hub scoring leader halfway through the season with 22 points (8G, 14A). The Pats as a team have scored 42 goals, Bedard has been in on 22 of them. He has been in on 52.4% of the Pats offense. Many people think that is pretty good.
