ICE sign Friesen

Forward Evan Friesen was signed to a Standard Player Agreement by the Winnipeg ICE on Wednesday. The 16-year-old native of Winnipeg, MB played for the MJHL’s Winnipeg Blues in 2020-21 scoring three goals and adding two assists in six games. The Blues are owned by the same ownership group that owns the Winnipeg ICE.

REPORT: No CHL draft-eligible Prospects camp

According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Canadian Hockey League will not be able to host a CHL draft-eligible prospects camp/event in Canada. With the COVID-19 pandemic still causing issues north of the border, it has been decided an event such as this can not be held at this time. There will be a similar camp held in Erie, Pennsylvania beginning May 31.

Proft heads to DEL

Forward Carter Proft (196GP, 25G, 19A with Brandon and Spokane ’10-’14) has departed Lowen Frankfurt to sign in the DEL. Which team has yet to be announced. Proft spent the last three seasons with Frankfurt and had 13 goals and 18 assists in 2020-21.

Muller signs with HC Lugano

Defenseman Mirco Muller (123GP, 11G, 47A with Everett ’12-’14) has signed with HC Lugano of the NL in Switzerland. The Winterthur, SUI native played 2020-21 with Leksands IF of the SHL in Sweden, posting four goals and three assists in 13 regular-season games and was held pointless in three playoff games. Muller was selected in the first-round of the 2013 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks and went on to play 185 NHL games. The Silvertips selected Muller 11th overall at the 2012 CHL Import Draft.

Fisenko signs with HC Dynamo Moscow

Following two seasons with the KHL’s Ak Bars Kazan squad, forward Mikhail Fisenko (179GP, 32G, 79A with Vancouver and Calgary ’08-’11) has signed with HC Dynamo Moscow.  In 2020-21 Fisneko scored two goals and added two assists through 40 games, and another assist in eight playoff games. The Giants selected Fisenko 51st overall at the 2008 CHL Import Draft.

Four WHLers commit to UBC Thunderbirds

The University of British Columbia announced on Tuesday that they had secured four WHL alumni for the 2021-22 season. Three forwards and a goaltender were named to the list that included: Forward Scott Atkinson (188GP, 36G, 43A with Edmonton ’16-’21), Forward Chris Douglas (250GP, 43G, 55A with Red Deer ’16-’21), Forward Liam Kindree (163GP, 27G, 68A with Kelowna and Lethbridge ’16-’21) and Goaltender Ethan Anders (146GP, 51-66-17, 3.37GAA. .898sv% with Red Deer ’17-’21).
