Former first overall WHL US Draft pick Gracyn Sawchyn‘s rights have been dealt from the Red Deer Rebels to the Seattle Thunderbirds for a conditional 2022 second-round WHL Draft pick. Red Deer had not been successful in signing Sawchyn to this point. Sawchyn played 2020-21 with the Shattuck St. Mary’s 16U AAA team, scoring 14 goals and adding 46 assists through 47 games.

Forward Reece Newkirk (205GP, 69G, 93A with Portland) has signed his three-year entry-level contract with the New York Islanders. The Islanders took Newkirk in the fifth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. With the Winterhawks, this season Newkirk scored nine goals and added 18 assists through 24 games.

Forward Derek Hulak (267GP, 95G, 147A with Regina and Saskatoon ’05-’10) has retired following an eight-game season with HC Thurgau in Switzerland. Hulak then returned to his alma mater, signed as an assistant coach at the University of Saskatchewan.

Forward Adam Beckman (153GP, 97G, 99A with Spokane) has been reassigned to the Iowa Wild by the Minnesota Wild. Beckman, the former third-round 2019 NHL Draft pick of the Wild, played in 21 games with the Chiefs this season. He scored 17 goals and added 10 assists. Last season, Beckman was named the WHL’s Four Broncos Trophy winner as the WHL player of the year.
Pachal reassigned to Silverknights, Korczak recalled

Defenseman Brayden Pachal (239GP, 26G, 72A with Victoria and Prince Albert ’15-’19) has been reassigned to the Henderson Silver Knights by the Vegas Golden Knights. Pachal was signed by the Knights on September 20, 2019. He has one goal and five assists through 23 games this season.
Defenseman Kaedan Korczak (214GP, 21G, 85A with Kelowna) has been recalled to the Henderson Silver Knights following the completion of the WHL season. A second-round 2019 NHL Draft pick of the Golden Knights, Korczak played 15 games with the Rockets this season, scoring three goals and adding five assists.

Forward Sasha Mutala (217GP, 65G, 89A with Tri-City) has been signed by the Colorado Eagles of the AHL to an amateur tryout contract. Mutala, 20, played 2020-21 with the Tri-City Americans, scoring six goals and adding 14 assists through 19 games. He is a former fifth-round NHL Draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche.

Forward Gage Goncalves (151GP, 46G, 74A with Everett) has been reassigned to the Syracuse Crunch by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Goncalves completed his 2020-21 season with 12 goals and 22 assists as the Everett Silvertips won the US Division. The Lightning selected Goncalves in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft.

Forward John Lammers (256GP, 93G, 106A with Lethbridge and Everett ’01-’05) has been signed to a contract extension by ESV Kaufbeuren of the DEL2 in Germany. Lammers was the leading scorer, earning 25 goals and 41 assists in 45 games. Lammers was a 2004 NHL Draft pick by the Dallas Stars.
