WHL announces changes to SubwayWHLHub games

The Western Hockey League announced on Monday that eight games would have changes to their scheduled times. All of the games that were changed had a start time of 8 PM mountain time and would now have a 6 PM mountain time start. The schedule of games can be found HERE.

Finley to miss the remainder of the season

2002-born forward Jack Finley (131GP, 28G, 49A) has been deemed out for the season by the Spokane Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Finley requires surgery for an injury to his shoulder and is expected to miss up to six months. The Lightning selected Finley in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft and signed him to an entry-level contract on December 12, 2020. He played in two games with the Lightning’s AHL affiliate, Syracuse Crunch earlier this season.

Wolf named Goaltender of the Week

Calgary Flames prospect and Everett Silvertips goaltender Dustin Wolf was named WHL Goaltender of the Week for the second consecutive week. This week, Wolf lead the Silvertips to a 3-0 record following his two wins in two appearances. Wolf had added a third consecutive shutout, in a win over the Tri-City Americans and followed it up with a 2-1 win over the Portland Winterhawks.

Krebs named WHL Player of the Week

Vegas Golden Knights prospect and Winnipeg ICE forward Peyton Krebs was named the WHL Player of the Week. Krebs had 11 points through four contests over the past week, including three, three-point nights. Krebs now has six goals and 11 assists through nine games this season in the Subway WHL Hub.

Heidt scores first WHL goal

2005-born Prince George Cougars forward Riley Heidt scored his first WHL goal at 9:55 of the first period in a 5-3 Cougars win over the Victoria Royals. Heidt was a 2020 first-round WHL Draft pick of the Cougars playing in his second WHL game.

Armstrong scores first WHL goal

2003-born Regina Pats forward Easton Armstrong scored his first WHL goal in the Regina Pats 9-4 win over the Swift Current Broncos. Armstrong’s goal came at 7:51 of the second period and turned out to be the eventual game-winning goal. The Pats selected Armstrong in the 10th round of the 2018 WHL Draft. It was Armstrong’s eighth WHL game.

Ward scores first WHL goal

2004-born Swift Current Broncos forward Matthew Ward scored his first WHL goal at 1:13 of the second period in a 9-4 loss to the Regina Pats. Ward’s goal brought the Broncos to within a goal at 3-2. The Broncos drafted Ward in the first round of the 2019 WHL Draft.

Bowie scores first WHL hat trick

2001-born Prince George Cougars forward Connor Bowie scored his first WHL hat trick on Monday night. His goals came at 3:46 of the first period, 11:04 of the first period, and 19:19 of the second period. His last two goals came on the power play and gave Bowie 20 goals for his WHL career.

Owre signs with Americans

Forward Steven Owre (282GP, 74G, 147A with Medicine Hat ’12-’17) has signed with the Allen Americans (ECHL). Owre had played the last three seasons with the University of Alberta Golden Bears. Last season in 28 games Owre had 13 goals and 14 assists. Owre is a former 2011 sixth-round WHL Draft pick of the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Butcher signs with Americans

Forward Chad Butcher (301GP, 82G, 177A with Medicine Hat ’11-’17) has signed with the Allen Americans (ECHL). Last season, Butcher played with the University of Alberta Golden Bears and scored eight goals and added 12 assists in 17 games. This is Butcher’s second stint with the Americans, he played three games in the 2018-19 season. Butcher is a 2011 third-round WHL Draft pick of the Medicine Hat Tigers.
