Johnston earns 400th win

In his 639th game behind the Winterhawks’ bench, Mike Johnston reached his milestone 400th win with a record of 400-195-19-25. Johnson was quoted in the game recap from last night. “Well, it’s certainly nice. I just liked the way that we played the game. I wasn’t fond of our game in Tri-City, but I thought tonight, especially for two periods, we showed some resiliency in the first, and then we responded with a good two periods. Any time you win a hockey game, it’s exciting for sure.”

Hlady works 400th game as equipment manager

Former Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman Scott Hlady (41GP, 4G, 7A) has reached a milestone of his own. As the team’s equipment manager, Hlady has been in the locker room and working with the team for 400 games. The 46-year-old Winnipeg, MB native was quite happy to have made the career change, “It was the best decision I ever made both from a mental and emotional perspective.”

Litke scores first WHL goal

Forward Aidan Litke scored his first WHL last night in the Portland Winterhawks 4-1 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds. Litke’s goal was scored at 9:24 of the second period, giving the Winterhawks a 3-0 lead. The Winterhawks drafted the 2003-born Winnipeg, MB native in the sixth round of the 2018 WHL Draft. It was just his second WHL game.

Lind scores first WHL goal

Forward Kalan Lind scored his first WHL goal in the Red Deer Rebels 3-1 loss last night against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Lind’s goal came with 6:46 to play in the third period. The Red Deer Rebels selected the 2005-born Shaunavon, SK native Lind sixth overall at the 2020 WHL Draft.

Wheat Kings unveil BWK Stealth jersey

Without much fanfare, by design, the Brandon Wheat Kings stealthily announced the brand new BWK STEALTH jersey on Twitter with the video pictured above. The Wheat Kings wore these jerseys in-game last night and they are the only team known at this time to release a special jersey in a stealth style.

Cholowski recalled from Red Wings taxi squad

Defenseman Dennis Cholowski (69GP, 14G, 52A with Prince George and Portland ’17-’18) has been recalled from the Detroit Red Wings taxi squad to the main roster. Cholowski has played in one game with the NHL club, remaining pointless. With the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, Cholowski has three goals and five assists in 11 games. The Red Wings selected Cholowski in the first round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Pickard recalled to the Red Wings

Goaltender Calvin Pickard (241GP, 91-120-27, 3.29GAA, .909sv% with Seattle ’08-’12) was recalled on Friday by the Detriot Red Wings. Pickard has appeared in one NHL game with the Red Wings, allowing two goals on 21 shots in 54 minutes of action. With Grand Rapids, Pickard has appeared in one game, a 2-1 overtime loss. Pickard is a former second-round pick of the Colorado Avalanche at the 2010 NHL Draft. Was a member of the 2017-18 Toronto Marlies that won the Calder Cup Championship.

Former WHL goalie scores in USHL

2000-born goaltender Todd Scott (68GP, 32-19-11, 3.47GAA, .887sv% with Vancouver and Edmonton) of Tri-City in the USHL scored a goal in last night’s 7-4 win over the Sioux Falls Stampede. Scott’s goal came at 19:32 of the third period into an empty Stampede net. Medicine Hat Tigers prospect Cole Sillinger also played in the game, scoring once and adding an assist. Sillinger now has 19 goals and 18 assists in 23 games with the Sioux Fall Stampede.
