Giants reveal roster

The Vancouver Giants have released their roster for the 2020-21 WHL season, they are the final team to do so. Included on the roster for the Giants is 2005-born, 10th overall 2020 WHL Draft pick Mazden Leslie. He is one of eight rookies, including two 2002-born rookies, three 2003-born, and two-2004 born. Forwards Tristen Neilsen (219GP, 67G, 76A with Calgary and Vancouver) and Eric Florchuk (248GP, 61G, 104A with Victoria, Saskatoon, and Vancouver), as well as defenseman Alex Kannok-Leipert (197GP, 14G, 51A), are the team’s three designated overage players.

Blazers ink Sydor

The Kamloops Blazers announced on Friday that they have signed 2003-born forward Dylan Sydor to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. He is the son of Kamloops Blazers’ part-owner and associate coach Darryl Sydor. Dylan played last season with the Thompson Blazers U18 AAA team, scoring 17 goals and adding 20 assists in 40 games. He also played a single game with the West Kelowna Warriors of the BCHL. Dylan will be taking part in the 2020-21 season with Kamloops.

Pats sign Howe to WHL Standard Player Agreement

The Regina Pats announced on Friday that they have inked Tanner Howe to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. Howe was a fourth-round draft pick of the Pats at the 2020 WHL Draft. This season with the Prince Albert Mintos U18AAA Howe score three goals and added an assist in five games. In his draft season with the Prince Albert Mintos U15 AA team, he scored 38 goals and added 37 assists over 31 games. Howe can join the Pats for the 2021-22 season.

Cougars and 94.3 FM the Goat continue radio partnership

The Prince George Cougars announced on Friday that 94.3 FM the GOAT will continue as its broadcast partner. The station will have all 24 Cougars’ games from the hub centres in Kamloops and Kelowna. Fraser Rodgers returns for his fourth season behind the mic as the team’s play-by-play voice. Hartley Miller, who has contributed as the team’s colour analyst for the last seven season, will continue to contribute to the radio broadcast.

Hanzel scores first WHL goal

Seattle Thunderbirds 2003-born defenseman Jeremy Hanzel scored his first WHL goal last night in the Thunderbirds 4-3 shootout win over the Spokane Chiefs. Hanzel’s goal was the first for the Thunderbirds last night, as the team trailed 2-0 when he scored at 15:57 of the second period.

Wiles scores first WHL goal

Spokane Chiefs 2002-born defenseman Raegan Wiles scored his first WHL goal last night in the Chiefs 4-3 shootout loss. Wiles scored the Chiefs second goal of the night to stake the team to a 2-0 lead at 12:24 of the second period.

WHL releases COVID-19 testing results

The WHL completed the sixth week of its return to play with one positive test result for COVID-19 among the 1,143 tests administered across the WHL from March 13 through March 19, 2021.

The Central Division administered 165 tests, and the East Division had 216 tests. US Division administered 450 tests, each member of the team received three tests through private antigen testing. The BC Division members each had two tests for a total of 294 tests. The lone positive result came from within the Kelowna Rockets cohort.

To date, the WHL has administered a total of 3,092 tests for COVID-19 from February 12 through March 19, 2021, with one positive test result.

Eberle signs with Steelers for 2021 Elite Series

Forward Tanner Eberle (270GP, 80G, 92A with Moose Jaw ’10-’15) has signed with the Sheffield Steelers of the EIHL for the 2021 Elite Series. Eberle was a member of the Steelers team that won the EIHL CUP in 2019-20. Eberle has 176 games of ECHL experience as well as 11 games of AHL experience.
