Winterhawks name leadership group

The Portland Winterhawks announced their new leadership group on Monday afternoon. Joining newly minted captain, Nick Cicek (114GP, 4G, 23A), are assistant captains forwards Jaydon Dureau (134GP, 31G, 68A), Seth Jarvis (130GP, 58G, 81A), Mason Mannek (188GP, 33G, 44A), and Reece Newkirk (181GP, 60G, 75A). It is believed that Nick Cicek is the first captain of a WHL team of Turkish descent. DUBNetwork has more on the announcement HERE.

Americans sign Serraglio to WHL Standard Player Agreement

2003-born defenseman Alex Serraglio has signed a WHL Standard Player Agreement with the Tri-City Americans. Undrafted, Serraglio played last season with the Yale Hockey Academy Prep team in the CSSHL U18 league. Serraglio scored five goals and added 17 assists in 36 games. This season with the Yale Hockey Academy U18 prep team, Serraglio had one assist over five games.

Bilous WHL Goaltender of the Week

Moose Jaw Warriors goaltender Boston Bilous has been named WHL Goaltender of the Week following back-to-back wins over the East Division’s opening weekend. On Friday, he secured a 4-3 overtime win over the Brandon Wheat Kings and then followed it up with a 2-1 shootout win over the Prince Albert Raiders. This game Bilous a 2-0-0 record, a 1.90 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. DUBNetwork has more on this HERE

Clayton WHL Player of the Week

Tigers defenseman Cole Clayton was named WHL Player of the Week following a four-goal and three-assist weekend over the team’s three games. On March 12, Clayton scored a hat trick, all three of which came with the man advantage. On March 13, a powerplay goal and a powerplay assist were scored by Clayton. On the final game of the weekend, Clayton added two assists.

Pair of ICE score their first WHL goals

2000-born forward Andrew MacDonald (196GP, 85G, 57A with Sherbrooke, Moncton, and Acadie-Bathurst of the QMJHL) scored his first WHL goal at 13:08 of the second period and 2005-born Zach Benson scored his first WHL goal just 40 seconds later as the Winnipeg ICE skated past the Swift Current Broncos 6-4. Both goals came in the players’ second game of the season. Benson was the 14th overall selection at the 2020 WHL Draft, MacDonald was the 10th overall selection of the Sherbrooke Phoenix at the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft.

Reinhardt scores first professional goal

Forward Cole Reinhardt (252GP, 75G, 66A with Brandon ’16-’20) has scored his first professional goal while a member of the Belleville Senators. Reinhardt’s goal came at 1:22 of the second period in a 3-2 loss to the Laval Rocket. Reinhardt is an unsigned sixth-round 2020 NHL Draft pick of the Ottawa Senators.

Dewar reassigned to Wild taxi squad

Forward Connor Dewar (270GP, 99G, 98A with Everett ’15-’19) has been reassigned to the Minnesota Wild’s taxi squad from the Iowa Wild. In 12 games with Iowa, Dewar has scored five goals and added three assists.  Dewar was a third-round 2018 NHL Draft pick of the Minnesota Wild and signed with the team on March 5, 2019.

Bow recalled to Stars taxi squad

Goaltender Landon Bow (160GP, 74-56-13, 2.91GAA, .912sv% with Swift Current and Seattle ’12-’16) has been recalled by the Dallas Stars from the Texas Stars to serve on Dallas’ taxi squad. Bow has appeared in two games for Texas this season, he has a 1-1-0 record, a 3.20 goals-against average, and a .889 save percentage. Bow was signed as a free agent by the Dallas Stars on March 10, 2017, and has since resigned on July 1, 2019, and October 23, 2020. Bow was a fourth-round pick of the Swift Current Broncos at the 2010 WHL Draft.

Hrabik recalled to Barracuda

Forward Krystof Hrabik (105GP, 35G, 47A with Tri-City ’18-’20) has been recalled by the San Jose Barracuda from the Allen Americans. Hrabik was the 41st overall selection of the 2018 CHL Import Draft. In six games with the Americans, Hrabik has scored two goals. He was held scoreless in his only game with Barracuda this season. Hrabik also spent time this season with Bili Tygri Liberec (Czech, 17GP, 1G, 0A) and HC Benatky nad Jizerou (Czech2, 12GP, 6G, 8A).

Topping recalled to Barracuda

Forward Kyle Topping (226GP, 71G, 125A with Kelowna ’16-’20) has been recalled by the San Jose Barracuda from the Allen Americans. Topping has scored one goal and added seven assists in seven games with the Americans. In two games with the Barracuda, Topping has one goal. Topping was an 11th round pick of the Kelowna Rockets at the 2014 WHL Draft. He was not drafted by an NHL team.

Reddekopp recalled to Barracuda

Defenseman Chaz Reddekopp (280GP, 27G, 107A with Victoria ’12-’18) has been recalled by the San Jose Barracuda from the Allen Americans. In seven games with the Americans this season, Reddekopp has one assist. While with the Barracuda, Reddekopp has been kept off the score sheet in two contests. The Los Angeles Kings drafted Reddekopp in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Mattheos recalled to Wolves

Forward Stelio Mattheos (253GP, 127G, 151A with Brandon ’14-’19) has been recalled by the Chicago Wolves from the Fort Wayne Komets. In three games with the Komets, Mattheos was held off the scoresheet but contributed six shots on net. While playing in six games with the Wolves this season, Mattheos has two assists. Mattheos was a member of the 2015-16 Brandon Wheat Kings that won the Ed Chynoweth Cup. He was also a member of the 2018-19 Charlotte Checkers that won the Calder Cup Championship. Mattheos was a third-round pick at the 2017 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Jobke signs extension with ERC Ingolstadt

Defenseman Colton Jobke (222GP, 14G, 22A with Kelowna and Regina ’09-’13) has signed a contract extension with ERC Ingolstadt for the 2021-22 season. Jobke will play in his fourth season with the team, having scored one goal and added two assists in 23 games in the 2020-21 season. Jobke was a 10th round 2007 WHL Draft pick of the Kelowna Rockets.

Abols signs extension with Orebro

Forward Rodrigo Abols (64GP, 20G, 30A with Portland ’15-’17) has signed a two-year contract extension with Orebro HK of the SHL. This season with Orebro HK, Abols has 19 goals and 15 assists in 44 games. Orebro currently sits fourth in the SHL with 84 points (24-17-4-4), two points behind Skelleftea. The Vancouver Canucks selected Abols in the seventh round of the 2016 NHL Draft.

Ulmer signs for two years with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds

Defenseman Stefan Ulmer (167GP, 19G, 75A with Spokane ’07-’10) has signed a two-year contract with HC La Chaux-de-Fonds of the SL in Switzerland. The Austrian defender won an Ed Chynoweth Cup and Memorial Cup with the Chiefs in 2007-08. This season Ulmer has split between EHC Biel-Bienne (NL, 9GP, 0G,1A) and HC La Chaux-de-Fonds (SL, 7GP, 1G, 4A)

Rob Hartnell passes away

Forward Rob Hartnell (191GP, 98G, 129A with Lethbridge and Tri-City) has passed away at the age of 48. The Rocky Mountain House, AB native played parts of four seasons in the ECHL following his graduation from the WHL. Most recently Hartnell played for the Bentley Generals of the Chinook Hockey League and participated in the Allan Cup, Canada’s Senior AAA Championship. DUBNetwork would like to pass on its sincerest condolences to Mr. Hartnell’s family and friends as well as the Hurricanes and Americans organizations.
