Cougars sign Svenson to WHL Standard Player Agreement

The Prince George Cougars have signed fifth-round 2018 WHL Draft pick Michael Svenson. The 17-year-old from Ile des Chenes, MB had been playing in the MJHL this season with the Winkley Flyers where he posted four goals and two assists in eight games.

WHL releases East Division Schedule

The Western Hockey League released the schedule for the East Division. The teams will play four games against each other with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Moose Jaw Warriors kicking things off on March 12. The final game will be played on April 28th between the Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos.

Winterhawks launch 30 Drills in 30 Days

The Portland Winterhawks announced that Head Coach Mike Johnston will be showcasing some of his favourite drills in a series of videos. The first video is scheduled to be released on March 7th and will be a  detailed video demonstration on how to run the drill. The videos will be available on the Winterhawks team website or via their social media channels.

Zary scores his first professional goal

Forward Connor Zary (188GP, 73G, 109A with Kamloops) scored his first, and second, professional goals last night while playing for the Stockton Heat. The team won 4-1 over the Belleville Senators, and Zary was named the games first star. Zary now has two goals and three assists in his five games with Stockton. With the BC Division getting underway in a few weeks it is unknown how many more games Zary is expected to play with the AHL club.

Nemecek extended

Defenseman David Nemecek (56GP, 5G, 10A with Saskatoon ’13-’14) has been signed to a contract extension by HC Sparta Praha of the Czech League. Nemecek was the 49th overall pick at the 2013 CHL Import Draft. In his first season with HC Sparta Praha, Nemecek has five goals and 17 assists over 45 games.

Maser recalled by Iowa Wild

Forward Josh Maser (218GP, 90G, 53A with Prince Albert and Prince George ’15-’20) has been recalled by the Iowa Wild from the Allen Americans. In two games with the Americans, Maser has been held pointless. He has also seen action with the Wild, scoring a goal in his two games with the AHL club.
