Dupont Media acquires DUBNetwork

As seen on The Rod Pedersen Show, Paul Figler joined Darren Dupont and Rod Pedersen in announcing that DUBNetwork had been acquired by Dupont Media. For the immediate future, things will remain as you know them, stay tuned for future updates!

WHL season to go ahead in BC

Reports state that the WHL 24-game season has been approved in British Columbia. There were very few details in the reports but it is believed that there will be two hubs based in Kamloops and Kelowna and the games will get underway at the end of March or the beginning of April.

Fairbrother signs with Canadiens

As he was being returned to the Everett Silvertips, defenseman Gianni Fairbrother (137GP, 17G, 49A) received a contract offer from the Montreal Canadiens. In three games with the Canadiens AHL affiliate, Fairbrother collected an assist. Fairbrother is a third-round draft pick of the Canadiens at the 2019 NHL Draft. When he returns to the ice with the Silvertips, he will be co-captains with Cole Fonstad.

Hurricanes claim Kindree

Forward Liam Kindree (142GP, 23G, 55A with Kelowna) was acquired by the Lethbridge Hurricanes from the Kelowna Rockets via WHL waivers. Kindree was a fourth-round pick of the Rockets at the 2015 WHL Draft.

Paddock to join Acadia Axemen

49 Sportnet is reporting that Max Paddock (133GP, 57-52-13, 3.02GAA, .905sv% with Regina and Prince Albert) has agreed to join the Acadia Axemen for the 2021-22 season unless Paddock receives a professional offer. Paddock had an amateur tryout with the Stockton Heat in February and has previously attended San Jose Sharks training camp.

Jon Keen announced that the WHL Radio Show is returning after an 11-month hiatus. The show can be found on WHL.ca as well as during the intermission of your favourite WHL team’s games.

True recalled by San Jose Sharks

Forward Alexander True (169GP, 45G, 39A with Seattle ’14-’17) has been recalled by the San Jose Sharks from the San Jose Barracuda. True was inserted right into the Sharks lineup to play his first NHL game this season. True was the 48th overall pick at the 2014 CHL Import Draft.

Budik, Lang sign extensions with HC Skoda Plzen

Defenseman Vojtech Budik (189GP, 18G, 65A with Prince Albert ’15-’18) and forward Martin Lang (122GP, 26G, 50A with Kamloops and Moose Jaw ’18-’20) have both signed extensions with HC Skoda Plzen of the Czech league. Lang was the 14th overall pick at the 2018 CHL Import Draft and Budik was the 17th overall pick at the 2015 CHL Draft. Budik was also drafted by the Buffalo Sabres at the 2016 NHL Draft, in the fifth round.

Figren signs extension with EHC Kloten

Forward Robin Figren (97GP, 28G, 30A with Calgary and Edmonton ’06-’08) has signed a contract extension with EHC Kloten of the SL in Switzerland. He is in his second season with the team having played in 43 games. Figren has 26 goals and 30 assists in that time.

Sutter’s contract terminated

Forward Brody Sutter (231GP, 57G, 68A with Saskatoon and Lethbridge ’08-’12) has had his contract terminated by the Iserlohn Roosters. Sutter is expecting the arrival of his first child at home in Canada and therefore the team and Sutter agreed to mutually terminate his contract, and he will leave the team at the end of March. Sutter has two goals and six assists in 17 games this season with Iserlohn.

McMillan’s contract terminated

Forward Brandon McMillan (251GP, 56G, 113A with Kelowna ’06-’10) has had his contract terminated by Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL. McMillan was in his first season with the team, scoring twice and adding five assists over 23 games. A third-round draft pick of the Anaheim Ducks at the 2008 NHL Draft, McMillan played 171 NHL games with the Ducks, Arizona Coyotes and Vancouver Canucks before heading overseas to play in the DEL and KHL.
