The Hurricanes were busy on Thursday, acquiring 2003-born defenceman Nolan Bentham (52GP, 1G, 2A) from the Victoria Royals. The Royals picked up three draft picks (2nd round 2024, 7th round 2022, and 8th round 2022) as well as the rights to 2004-born American forward Chase LaPinta, who is committed to Arizona State University for 2023-24. 17-year-old Bentham did not play in 2020-21.

Defenceman Max Martin (271GP, 36G, 128A with Prince George, Prince Albert, and Kamloops ’15-’20) has re-signed with the Texas Stars, AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Martin scored one goal and added two assists through nine AHL games in 2020-21, his first professional season. Martin won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Prince Albert Raiders in 2018-19.

Goaltender Max Paddock (148GP, 64-58-14, 3.01GAA, .905sv% with Regina and Prince Albert) has committed to Acadia University for the 2021-22 season. With the Raiders in 2020-21, Paddock was 7-6-1, with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage.
Plihal signs extension
Forward Tomas Plihal (139GP, 67G, 96A with Kootenay ICE ’01-’03) has signed a contract extension with HC Jablonec nad Nisou of the Czech3 league. Last season, Plihal scored one goal and added three assists in three games. The ICE selected Plihal 16th overall at the 2001 CHL Import Draft. He was also a fifth-round NHL Draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in 2001.

The Brandon Wheat Kings announced on Thursday that they added four members to their front office/business staff. Play by play voice Branden Crowe will remain in that position while adding Director of Social Sales and Strategic Marketing to his portfolio. Meanwhile, Jordan Kaspick and Wyatt Garden have joined the Wheat Kings as Account Executives. Grady Manson joins the Wheat Kings in the role of Director of Corporate Sales.

Troy Gillard, the part-time voice of the Red Deer Rebels in 2020-21 has signed on to be the full-time Director of Broadcasts and Media. Gillard comes over from Jim Pattison Media, more specifically, RDNEWSNOW, Big 105.5FM, and 106.7 Rewind Radio. He is expected to step into the role in early July.
